The constant non-stop canned music

Can we talk about voting for a song to "pump the crowd up" in the 4th quarter. And then somehow we settle on Kelly Clarkson? Holy shit that was the cringiest thing I can ever remember sitting through at Wa-Griz stadium. Just reeks of some idea that a Gen-Z intern came up with.

It's as if they're trying to reach out to younger generations to have their own fun experience at a game! 😅

For the record I cheered for Mr Brightside even though I know that's a total ripoff from what Michigan does.

Both the canned music and the band need to stop playing before offensive snaps. Save that shit for defensive possessions. Can’t help with communication
I will weigh in on this so that everyone knows what we are doing in the Grizzly Marching Band. When the team is on offense near our end of the field, we stop playing as a full band and just have the drumline play grooves. We also reduce the volume of the grooves so that the players can hear without extra noise.

Conversely, when the opposing team is on offense on the South end, we play the loudest tunes we have, crank up the volume and point our instruments right at the field. In both cases, my drum majors have strict instructions to stop playing soon enough that we never risk the possibility of being penalized, which I have seen happen at other schools.

Dr. Griggs, thank you, to you and your hard-working students! The band does not receive nearly enough credit and appreciation for the time and effort put forth. GRIZ fans appreciate you.

I think it should be all Grizzly Marching Band!!
The DJ is a failed experiment, he’s going end up getting the a penalty called against the Griz one of these times. He’s constantly playing past the snap, past the kickoff, and he definitely shouldn’t be playing when the Griz are on offense and trying to get a play ran.

Agree completely

Also @UMGMB - great work on your marching designs/formations this week! Admittedly, I don't know enough of how all that works to expertly say "good or bad" but I thought it was way cool you guys were doing marching designs at game number 2. I never played in band, but a ton of my in-laws have, so I always try to record the jumbotron and share with them when you guys are doing stuff.

Much appreciated and thanks for all you do!

Nothing like a good drumline! Love that you guys are at the game and are a big part of the electric atmosphere of Wa-Griz!

Can any of the band play offensive line?

for me the issue with the constant music from the dj is that it can disrupt the socializing and banter about football that goes on between plays. i like to just focus on the game, but others have a really good time meeting and talking about a shared interest (griz football) with their their seat neighbors, etc... having the band play is much better, they make it feel more like a football atmosphere than a disco.

The last time I went to a Denver Nuggets basketball game...5-6 years ago...it was the same thing. They had like a DJ playing music while the game was happening. I couldn't believe it. I have been to dozen of NBA games over the years...that was the last one. Nobody needs to listen to club music while watching sports.

Now get the hell off my lawn!

The only way it will change is if Athletics can get a Meditation or Yoga business to buy sponsorship. Then we could have at least a few minutes of solace during one TV timeout.

Uh, yeah dude. This is kinda the point. I'd much prefer a video replay or scores from another game or stats from the GRIZ game than a DJ blaring loud music. If anything it takes fans out of the game. Look, the occasional pump up song is great; but when it's done all the time, it has the opposite effect. Same for the contests/on-the-field skits: a few is great; one every timeout makes it feel like a minor league baseball game.
It's like idiots constantly protesting or blocking traffic for their pet cause....it has the OPPOSITE effect on me.

I have written to both of them more than once voicing my opinion on these matters. Hopefully they will listen to more fans.

I cannot believe that Coach Hauck or anyone associated with Griz Football hasn't complained about the DJ playing music right up until the snap when the Griz had the ball.
The dj flat out sucks. The songs that are played on third down kill the energy or dont get the crowd hyped up like they should. I heard a few classics mixed in but the club shit on 3rd 👎🏻

I thought the music sucked and I don't even know what "the club shit on 3rd" means!
