Herder Ballot

The Bobcats being 0-2 including a recent choke in the litter box being top 5 makes this list lose all credibility.

Griz would have been 0-1 after week 1 if we'd played Oregon too...so its tough to hold that one over the 'Scats' heads...conversely if the 'Rabbits' punter hadn't whiffed on a punt and gifted them a TD, that game would have been over in regulation...
We can go over many hypotheticals but you can’t say that for sure. The Griz beat FBS top 25 Washington not too long ago. I could say the Cats would have still been 0-1 if they played CWU in their first game.

Does think the Cat running backs and OL are tops in the nation? Say no. 3? Some Cat fans apparently think ST mistakes by either team can be ignored.

True on 0-1, but Gilman wouldn’t have averaged 1.7 per carry.

That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I think its tough to make an assessment based on the Oregon game, that probably falls out of consideration IMO. The SDSU game was numbers 2 and 3 in the nation, and went to double overtime, its tough to punish them too much for that result. If the Cats are going to underwhelm, they have all season to show it.

What has my attention is UND at #8. Yikes!

Rankings and "poles" would not bother me so much if there was not so much on the line at the end of the season. Seeds especially top 4 are huge come playoff time and can make the difference in a playoff run.

Let's say hypothetically cats lose to NAU, they would be 3-3 however would be top 5 going into that game. Assuming NAU will be top 25 does MSU get another ahh shucks they lost to a top 25 team they stay top 10? At some time you have to move down for a loss.
You can bet your ass if Griz lose to UND they will drop to 17th or so and I will be ok with that.

Yep agree here. And UND is a strong team.. definitely shouldn't overlook at all.. I've a feeling its going to come down to who puts up more points and turnovers..

I'm not a fan of the preview of Herder's poll picks. It basically amounts to guideance for voters who have strong familiarity of their hometown team, maybe their conference, but then the familiarity with FCS gets pretty thin.
