Column on Ah Yat

Ah Yat has not been named "the guy". And who knows if that will happen early on here this season. But from my eyes, he looks improved in a variety of ways.

"Ah Yat has looked decisive, confident and like he has an elevated sense of maturity. He gets the ball out quickly. He seems to have a command of Brent Pease’s offense. And he’s taken the bulk of the reps behind the first-team offensive line, a strong indicator of his standing on the depth chart, although Montana will not announce one until this week."

You can read the whole thing here:

Side note: Houghton has moved back to the East Coast. So I'm rolling solo on the Griz beat from a writing perspective. Sammy Akem and Andrew Schmidt will be chipping in with podcasting and video analysis for us as well and Brooks Nuanez will keep on doing photographer and Griz analysis as well.

"And part of it comes from the opinion that at least a portion of Griz nation shares: that a quarterback who develops and starts for multiple years within a program is the most tried and true formula in the Football Championship Subdivision for sustained success."

Nothing can beat development.

Ah Yat : “Just processing things, trying to get the pre-snap, post-snap reads. Just trying to be more of a student of the game and slowing things down.”

If plays like this he will do well.

Nice article. A couple of nit-picky things. Griz/SDSU Champ game was 23-3, not 28-3 and the 1996 Championship game was in Huntington, not Chatanooga.

I just attribute those oversights to the vast amount of sports trivia running laps in your brain! ;)

It would be interesting to compare the collegiate live game snaps taken (if possible) for Brian vs Keali’i going into their sophomore season. Brian played his redshirt freshman year in many games where Dickerson took a seat early in the third quarter (shared with Josh Pafhausen).

Ahem… Dickenson. Not Dickerson. As Coulter says “everyone needs an editor!”
