Coaching news😳

Kirby Smart, Brian Kelly, Sark, Dan Lanning, Ryan Day. I could name coaches all day long who would never make a dumb hire of a previous player with zero coaching experience. Decision making like that is how you get fired.
Again, never met one of them and you can't ask me to speculate on how they feel about it. I can name coaches all day long too that I've met in my lifetime, Bobby Hauck, Don Reed, Larry Krystkowiak, Wayne Tinkle, Phil Jackson, Sparky Anderson, and I can go on more there too that I have met. I didn't know any more of what any of them thought than you do. I can't read minds, and I don't believe you can. I can tell you that most coaches want to work with people they are familiar with. That's kind of what they have on their staffs if you look at, for instance another one that I've never met that I know is a good example, Andy Reed has worked with a lot of the same people, starting with his playing time to BYU and all the way to Kansas City.
I did not ever make any insinuation I was making some kind of recommendation on a decision of who should be hired. I'm not delusional, I have made the point more than once, I am not part of that process to hire anyone.
I have said this before as well, we are just having a discussion here about what we would like to see, do you play fantasy football and talk about your team. Not a whole lot of difference, in fact, one of the folks on here is setting up a Big Sky Conference fantasy league. Sometimes there are folks on here that have a connection to what is going to happen in the University of Montana Athletic Department that can share some little nuggets with us, or a chat with someone that would know.
No one on this thread has contended they know what will happen with this situation however. All anyone has said is that they would like to see someone they name taking that position.
If you don't get that, get off the thread man.

Randy Shannon, Rick Neuheisel, Scott Frost, Mike Shula, Brady Hoke, Paul Cryst, Kliff Kingsbury, need me to keep going? There are lots.
You think those coaches were unsuccessful, disasters, who tarnished their legacy with their alma mater forever? Kingsbury and Neuheisel have been incredibly successful while the others were certainly not disasters/tarnishers.
Seems more like you cited the exception rather than the rule.

You guys are right. The first thing UM should do for every open coaching position is try to hire a former Griz player no matter who else has thrown their hat in the ring. Their possible lack of experience can be easily overcome by being able to tell players they too were a Griz player in their day. Why would UM go out and try to hire an existing WR coach who has put in work and proven themselves when they could just go and grab a former player and call it a day. Not sure why I didn’t see it this way before.

Project much?

No it’s brilliant plan. Next we can replace professors with former students who “really loved the class”
Your point is well taken but sometimes former students make the best tudors for a given class. It's a pretty good analogy I think to compare the assistant coaches to class room tudors and not professors.

Former GRIZ players know, for a lack of a better term, The GRIZ way--Coachng at UM means more to them than just a paycheck. Coach Hauck was a GA under Papa Bear Don Read and brother Tim and Brent Pease played under Coach Read, and Justin Green 💚, Shann Schillinger, and Mike Ferriter were all indoctrinated into The GRIZ way playing under Bobby and are now successful coaches. And even long-time assistants that were not GRIZ players know this blue-collar, pack your lunch bucket, leave-it-all-on-the field philosophy, like Rob Phenicie and now former Shi__y Kitty Roger Cooper.

So if all else is roughly equal between two candidates for a GRIZ assistants position, I would go with the former GRIZ player who knows UM and Missoula, loves ❤️ UM and Missoula, and being a UM assistant means more to him than collecting his paycheck and punching his ticket until something better comes along !!!

Is that why MSDUi students are such rock heads and can barely read or write? You guys get tutored by tudors?

Colter mentioned on his show last night that Bobby is fervently trying to hire a new WR coach. He threw out Robin Pflugrad and Mike Ferriter as two possibilities but did mention he wasn’t even sure how that would work with Pflugrad having been previously fired from UM.
Bobby got the head job in 2004 when Pflu was the big-time favorite. Even if Pflu were interested in coming out of retirement, I don't see Bobby/Pflu mixing on the same staff well. I could definitely get behind Mike Ferriter, though. He would be back for a second stint after having served here under Stitt. I believe he is currently coaching at Central Washington.

You are correct. Ferriter is the OC at CWU.

Wasn't Pflugrad on the staff in 2009 under Bobby? He is sitting at the house so the question would be how retired is he.

At this point, a week from the start of camp, you have to make some calls and send out some feelers to see who might come in though I would think.
