Montana should set up a home and home with Marshall. A trip back to Huntington WV where we won our first natty would be sweet.

I
I believe it was the mighty NCAA that scolded Idaho after they traveled to WA-GRIZ in 2003 and lost that no FBS team can travel to play the FCS school at their FCS stadium. And, indeed, if my faulty memory is holding serve, we didn't play Idaho again for about 20 years until they dropped back to The FCS and the BSC.
Idaho has been propped up by the NCAA, and others over the years, after it left the BSC. They left FCS because Boise State left the FCS. Idaho couldn't fill the paltry number of seats it had(16,000) so they tried to relocate to Pullman(like anybody there gave a FF about Vandal football). Idaho stooped to giving away, or nearly giving away, tickets to Vandal games. A pathetic mess. Yet, the NCAA looked the other way and ignored its mandated minimum attendance requirements. At one point, they stooped to claiming near capacity attendance(for example, claiming 14,500 when pictures taken showed only about 2/3 seats taken, in that cavernous Kibbie Dome). Why the hell the BSC allowed Idaho back in is a mystery to me. Here's more Google regurgitation:
  • Idaho's primary home field is the Kibbie Dome located on their campus in Moscow, Idaho.
  • However, for a period from 1999 to 2001, the Idaho Vandals utilized Martin Stadium for their home games. This was done to meet NCAA requirements for Division I-A (now FBS) membership, as the Kibbie Dome's seating capacity at the time (16,000) was too small to satisfy the requirement.
  • Since the attendance criteria changed, Idaho has primarily used the Kibbie Dome as their home stadium. Idaho football rejoined the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in the Big Sky Conference in 2018.
  • The Idaho Vandals and Washington State Cougars have a long-standing rivalry known as the "Battle of the Palouse". This football game is often played at Martin Stadium, though the 2003 game was played in Seattle.
  • The next scheduled meeting between the two teams at Martin Stadium is on August 30, 2025. This game will mark the beginning of the 2025 season for both teams, under new head coaches.

The official capacity is still 16,000. They did renovations, lowering the playing surface, which were supposed to allow them to expand to 20,000. They never did any of that though.
It's not a matter of taking a picture and looking at the number of people in the seats for attendance. I went to three games last year (attendance), Missouri State (26,482), Weber State (25,888) and NAU (26,229). All of those are above WA-Griz capacity (25,217) and there was plenty of room to stretch out and be comfortable around me for all three. Attendance is based on ticket sales.
Not saying Idaho didn't fudge the figures some, I think they played as the home team in Pullman one year against Washington State and they gave away a bunch of student tickets. Back when we called Dornblaser home turf, there were plenty of people in our camp that would have played there, and when it was built in 1972 or whatever, they were going to have an open air stadium because they were trying to move up. When the deal fell through on that, someone made the bad decision to put a roof over it to make it look like that quasit hut in Pocatello.
Thank the heavens that when we moved, the new home was made for expansion, and for a roof that I hope anyone ever allows.

So are you saying we could loose to Carroll or Tech if scheduled ? thus coach Bobby could lose his job? Interesting.
This is not at all what the conversation WE were having was all about. You have a bad habit of jumping into a discussion at a point you find convenient to take something out of context and trying to make an issue out of it.
No one mentioned anything about LOSING to anyone. No one saw LOSING to Tech in 2019-20 coming though, and that didn't cost DeCuire his job, but that wasn't the discussion either if you would pay attention to all of the thread.

I have no interest in traveling the Huntington W.Va for a non-conference game. The place sucked 30 years ago. It sucks even harder now. It's also not the easiest place to get to.
The Herd were in the national championship five of six years in the early 90s, squaring off with Youngstown for three of those. It was a real Rust Belt showdown.
In that context, the Griz are probably an afterthought.

My Huntington, WV story.
I drove through there one time, in 2002 driving a maroon Corvette with UofM plates. I was in the left lane with a long line of cars pretty much in both lanes of I-64 traveling about the same speed.
I was pulled over and cited for driving 4 mph over the posted speed limit and when I tried to oppose the ticket, the court clerk told me that it was not possible, stating that the fine was $5 for the "excessive speed" and the rest of the more than $100 for the ticket was for court fees. I don't remember how much it was, somewhere between $125 and $150, but arguing that I wasn't going to court didn't take away the "court fees" either.
Not a coincidence. They knew in Huntington we won in 2001 and that ticket was for 1995.

No such thing, go back and read what Mick wrote and then what you said. He didn't say anything about losing, as much time as I have been away from Montana due to life happening, I am fully aware that Carroll and Tech believe we should play them and even that when we do, we should play there like its the 1930's again. They have been saying that at least since the Joe Glenn's days and I met his son at the 2001 championship post-game party and we were joking about that, and he played at Carroll.
Now maybe you are up to speed on that little part of the conversation. But what he was saying was also a reply to GriznMN as part of the conversation some of us were in on, which didn't involve you. You get all fired up over someone saying anything to you in the same manner, case in point, on the poll thread.

Big difference between upsets in football and basketball, though.

And you're ignoring the part about reputational damage. We win, we gain nothing. No good experience against competition that is at or near FCS football. If we win, nobody cares and it doesn't count toward the playoffs. If kids at the NAIA schools have FCS talent, the would transfer up. That is exceedingly rare.

Loose?
Who was the idiot that suggested UM should schedule an NAIA team every year?
I don't know who it was but here is a clue. Hum lets see.

Dude, have another great big bong hit! Remember the rule though is, puff, puff give!!!
How am I saying we should schedule an NAIA team. Once again you are taking people's posts waaaaay out of context. That means, you are not accurately describing what the person you are quoting is saying, by the way.
Do you speake ingish? You certainly can't read it because there is nowhere in there that I said we should schedule and NAIA team, I am all for it if the NCAA didn't count that, not just for playoff consideration, but in the standings, unless the team dumb enough to play it loses.
I was speaking of the Carroll and Tech fans that say it, based on the conversation I had with Casey Glenn.
