GFP will be talking with Kent Haslam on the house settlement opt-in

Just logged in to see about getting single game Griz/Cat tickets. $500+ for a single seat!? ($307 plus fees for the lowest price right now...) Are you serious? How can the athletic department justify pricing seats like this is professional sports?
You must not remember the ticket prices for Cat/Griz back in 2023.

Yes, and I’ve yet to see a journalist press the athletic department on this. I would like to know how they decide what to charge and if they feel any responsibility as a public university to provide a more reasonable array of price points. Rich people shouldn’t be the only fans that get to attend this game.

I think the athletic department is in a bit of a tough spot on that game because of the re-sale value. It doesn't make a lot of sense for our athletic department to sell single tickets to that game for cheaper, and then have people just buy them up for re-sale of over $1,000.

I don't see it as gouging, but as trying to get the athletic department a fair share of the pie for the money they can be sold for.

If someone REALLY wants to just attend the Brawl, they don't have to be rich. You can buy a season ticket and sell the rest of them at face value, making back the majority of the $700 you spend for the season tickets. If someone wants season tickets and is willing to sacrifice going to the brawl, you can buy the season tickets and sell that game to cover the whole thing.

Supply vs Demand. It's not that surprising Cat/Griz is now a high-ticket item. The university knows the game is guaranteed to sell out, it's the highest-demanded ticket every two years, etc. They're going to take advantage of that and sell at a premium. If they sold those tickets for $70, the secondary market would end up still selling for $300+.

And this isn't a game for the rich. If one wants to attend the game, decisions have to be made on how are you going to save up for that game. What are you going to give up spending money on in order to attend this game? I am certainly not rich, but I did buy season tickets to avoid this very situation. In 2023, I didn't have season tickets and ended up paying close to $500 for two tickets. Decided to bite the bullet and got season tickets in 2024. A lot of us buy season tickets to avoid paying out the nose for Cat/Griz single game tickets.

@get'em_griz pointed this out, but I've also heard this. Based on where I work at the U, I have heard supposedly (via rumor, not directly confirmed) the general idea is "if people are going to pay $500+ on StubHub/not GrizTix, then why shouldn't GrizTix/the University be the ones getting that money?"

Beware of biting the hand that feeds you. They’re for all intents and purposes @ that critical juncture now, for FCS related tickets anyway. Go FBS, & be successful… I’d estimate they could get away with an additional $3-500 more on ticket pricing.

Yeah...I don't agree with it (high tix prices), but it makes sense. You see the tix price drop in StubHub/whoever, I bet you'll see it drop on GrizTix (though it probably won't drop on either platform unless both teams stink the whole year).

I would not be paying more money to watch us go .500 in the Mountain west. I'd pay the same, but no 300 to 500 more.

Agreed, .500 wouldn’t get it done. I’d say they’d have to be in the range of 7- 9 wins year in and year out for the additional $$.

For some FBS secondary market reference, tickets to Texas at Georgia are around $700.
Upper deck tickets to Florida / Georgia “the world’s largest cocktail party” in Jacksonville are currently $250-$350.

I understand the supply and demand that’s driving prices. What I’m asking is not why they’re doing it but really should they be doing it. I do question whether a public university should be taking advantage of the situation as you put it to maximize profit to such an extreme. Of course every ticket won’t be $70, but could some of these be $70 or $80 or $100?

That’s great that you’re able to buy season tickets and perhaps others may have the time to buy season tickets and sell those games they aren’t interested in. I still think you’re excluding a pretty big demographic.

Why wouldn't the university take advantage of being able to sell tickets for a premium when the demand is there? This is a free market economy and the university football teams operate like a business.. The market is saying that these tickets are worth $300 plus just by the secondary market alone. And I think it's dangerous to say that universities should be forced to cap prices.

We only have a 25,216 capacity stadium. 19k seats are sold to season ticket holders. Add a couple thousand in reserve to students. 500 for visiting fans. That leaves roughly 3k-4k seats remaining for the "big demographic" that is likely another 10-20k people on any-given Saturday who would like to attend this game in particular.

You want ticket prices to be lower for non-season ticket holders? Advocate for a stadium expansion to increase the supply to offset the demand for more tickets.

This is a non-starter for the admin. They want ticket demand pressure to keep prices high. A high percentage of season ticket sales is important when you have a schedule with many uninteresting opponents.

They do want more club seats/suites so that could be the focal point of the next expansion. And a new press box.
