My bad for using the zz. Griz/Grizz... still should be the top team in Big Sky this year. Gibson on paper is intriguing. But watching him throw in the spring scrimmage was not so intriguing. After watching him throw you know why LSU wanted him to move to receiver. That is why he left LSU. The ball comes out flat and slow. Like I put in original post, his JUCO highlight shows a lot of deep throws to speedy receivers wide open not many short throws. Against Big Sky corners you are not going to get that separation like JUCO. He does throw better than Keone... but most high school players throw better than Keone.

Hard to dispute any of those numbers. Life cycle of a Bears football fan... get excited in the spring... go to spring game and realize flaws... women's softball looks good... summer comes and start getting excited for fall football... mid-season football... well Volleyball is exciting... comment at that same time...when does basketball start? Disappointing season... Do it all over again... can set your calendar to that cycle. All of the UNC sports are Big Sky worthy and pulling their weight... except for football.

To be honest... I don't think it will be in any better this year. When the portal opens in December you will probably see a mass exodus this year and the recruiting/build cycle starts all over again.

UNC is in a tough position. Colorado is already relatively low in local football talent production, and UNC is at best the third best program for Colorado kids to go to way behind CU and CSU. You could put UNC 5th behind Wyoming and School of Mines as well. Colorado School of Mines is D2 but their coach was way more successful at the FCS level in Missoula than Ed Lamb has been at UNC. Golden is also better than Greeley across the board except with cost of living and academically Mines is superior. Wyoming while in a different state is FBS within an hour of Greeley.

This is true, and UNC and the NCAA have pretty much sucked the life out of me as far as being a fan. The NIL and portal are the death blows for programs like UNC. I’ll put money on Munroe and Champa leaving for the portal even if UNC wins a few more games, then Lamb will really be in a world of hurt. I used to go to just about every game at Nottingham, but I average about one game per year for past couple of seasons.
 
I have UNC getting past Chadron State in a close one, then winning miraculously at Houston Christian and then putting up a perfect 0-8 Big Sky mark to end their season at 2-10. That program is too proud to give up their cellar position so easily.

I think you are wrong or off regarding the lack of talent in Colorado. A lot of good kids coming out of Colorado making impact on rosters across the country. The good ones don't stay home and CSU and CU isn't even getting those kids. Sure... it isn't a Texas, Florida, or Cali. The problem is that I don't think UNC is not getting the top of the talent in Colorado or the top of the overlooked kids. Some of the "overlooked" kids that they have recruited went RMAC. There is a reason that RMAC is a good D2 conference and that is because they have had their pickings of talent from overlooked Colorado kids. Stitt at Mines has been able to use transfers with Colorado kids to build that program. The thing about Mines... they can get grad transfers to come in already developed because of their academic programs. When they won the Natty they had multiple OL guys who were from schools such as Stanford who came to Mines as grad transfers. As for UNC recruiting... McCaffrey had some very good recruits... but his tenure was a chit show in other aspects. Lamb ran a lot of those guys off after the first year.

Fully agree there, if a kid has an eye on a service academy they are most likely to have a second one as the backup on their list. When I was stationed at Fort Carson oh so long ago, I had season tickets one year at Air Force. The height and weight restrictions are tough on them and I am surprised they don't move down to FCS. Maybe something has changed from the days when Chad Hennings had to complete his service obligation to join the Cowboys and David Robinson got an early release from his commitment at Navy, but I am surprised at the number of kids you see going through the portal these days. I am not saying no one ever transferred out of or into them previously, but it seems to happen a lot more these days.

If a college or even a high school in Texas has a track around their football field like at UNC they are probably not that serious. If a high school in Texas has a football exclusive stadium without a track watch out they are probably a solid team.

I would tend to disagree with this, based on what I have seen around San Antonio and Houston. Most notably, Judson is a pretty strong high school team and they, and the other San Antonio high school fields all have tracks, as does the stadium in Odessa where Permian plays.
College wise, most of the smaller schools also have tracks like Incarnate Word, SFA, Lamar and Sam Houston State. SHSU is currently working on renovations to their press boxes, and I don't think they are adding seating or taking out the track.
Very disappointed that Montana is playing at UIW in 2028. I have only been to a couple of games at Benson Stadium, but the last time I was there the visiting team was still taping players on training tables outside near the baseball field that is directly adjacent to the "stadium" and their basketball facility. Seating for basketball is probably about what I remember at Hellgate back in the 80's.

The better schools around DFW and Austin tend to have a football specific stadium and a separate field with a track around it.

I partially agree with you. I feel the Griz need to play against some of the best FCS teams each year in our Outside Conference Schedule.

UIW is a proven FCS team, nationally ranked (6th - 10th in 2025 in preseason polls). They will be a good opponent.

The Griz may meet them in the playoffs this year or next. They are not a "Gimmie opponent"

This game will be good for recruiting in Texas. I hope the Griz give this state more emphasis than in past. So much talent exists here for the Griz.

.To me their playing stadium is small & slightly above most FCS schools. Their nearby amenities are excellent with air travel excellent.

This will be one hell of a game!!

Agree with everything except the "air travel excellent"! Been dealing wth the crappy service in and out of SA for years... given the size of the market you'd expect much better air service...
