Sac State joins the BIG West

Is joining the Big West a step up or more about saving on travel costs? Unrelated, the Big West should change their name to California (plus 1) Conference to reflect their current membership.
I think it is more that they know that no real FBS conference wants the rest of their sports, but their leadership is obsessed with getting their football team in the FBS. This gives their other sports a home and lets football keep trying to move up.

I'd actually have loved if the rest of their teams stayed in the Big Sky, but here we are.

I don't think it is the "rest of their sports" that is the issue.

I think their softball complex is pretty decent. Not sure how it compares to other potential and incoming pac members but was the best in the BSC with Weber 2nd I think. Then us.

Texas State to the PAC-12 - wonder if that opens things up for our.....friends in Sacramento.

Blurb:
The Pac-12 Conference and Texas State University today announced the Bobcats will join the league for its next era as a foundational member of the new Pac-12 beginning with the 2026-27 season. Texas State joins Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State and Washington State as nine foundational members of the new Pac-12, with the league's official launch set for July 1, 2026. The Bobcats will join as a full member of the new Pac-12, participating in all conference sports.

With the addition of Texas State, the new Pac-12 will have eight football-playing, all-sports members to meet NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) requirements and nine total full members across all other conference sports including men's and women's basketball.

After receiving a formal application, the Pac-12 Board of Directors, including all eight current and future members of the new Pac-12, voted unanimously to admit Texas State to the conference effective July 1, 2026.

The Sun Belt is not going to invite Sac State. They have no need for it. The only reason the Sun Belt added Idaho was for strategic purposes. At the time, the Sun Belt needed 12 football programs in order to have a conference championship game, so they added Idaho. Now, they have plenty of teams, and Louisiana Tech is leaving Conference USA to join the Sun Belt as a replacement for Texas State leaving.

Sac State is going to be swimming as an FCS independent for a while.

If true this kind of makes sense, satisfies everyone in the PAC who wants a more Regional opponent, Texas State for a presence in Texas and most importantly 9 Conference games in Football.

Luke is what I would call not a great source of information. Like, ever. He hangs around my mentions with a lot of strange "confirmed" type stuff that's never remotely true.

If the Sun Belt wasn't willing to have Idaho, then why would they want California?
Is this a serious question? Not saying that they’re gonna go but an FBS con choosing between a school for potato heads with a Quonset hut for a stadium or a school in a big market with no FBS competition is a no brainer.
