Northern Colorado Regular Season Predictions

Griz til I die

I bet there’s no one more excited for the future addition of Utah Tech than UNC. Let’s dive in!

August 30 vs. Chadron State - W. I was actually really surprised to see that UNC is the only team in the Big Sky that’s playing at home in week 1. Everybody else is on the road. Bears get the win.

September 6 @ Colorado State - L. Super short bus trip but a long day for the Bears.

September 13 @ South Dakota - L. Another long day for the Bears.

September 20 @ Houston Christian - W. The Huskies are really bad and haven’t been worth a shit since Bailey Zappe was there. If UNC can’t win this one, they should be ashamed of themselves.

September 27 vs. Idaho State - L. Three straight road games before going home to get walloped.

October 4 BYE

October 11 @ Idaho - L. Another tough road game and the start of a brutal four game stretch for even an average team.

October 18 @ Sacramento State - L. Jayden Rashada might throw for 500 yards in this game.

October 25 vs. UC Davis - L. Damn, hope they enjoy their two non conference wins.

November 1 vs. Montana State - L. Bears fans are not gonna be treated to any good home Football games.

November 8 @ Northern Arizona - L. Man what a tough five game stretch. This would be a tough stretch for the Griz, but for UNC? This is murderers row.

November 15 @ Eastern Washington - L. They couldn’t beat them at home last year so they’re not gonna beat them on the road.

November 22 vs. Portland State - W. This game might be for last place in the conference. I think Barney’s squad is gonna be really bad this year. I think UNC wins a close one at home.

——————————
I got UNC going 3-9. I think this is attainable and they should be excited if they get 3 wins after how bad the last 2 years have been. That’s my prediction. Thoughts???

Northern Colorado couldn't beat Houston Christian at home last year, I don't know how they'll do it on the road. I'm not going to hold my breath they get more than one win total this year.
Did they lose to them at home last year? Shoot I don't remember that at all. I remember they lost to Abilene Christian at home on a game winning FG. I'm still gonna give them the benefit of the doubt only because they did have some injuries last year. If they were healthier they probably could've won another game or two. Regardless, they're still not gonna be very good.

Finally, ISU getting the respect they deserve from you! (Kidding!)

I don’t know about their defense but they’ve definitely made upgrades to their skill positions. They brought in four transfer QB’s with a lot of starting reps under their belts to compete with the incumbent starter that got hurt early last year. They brought in an Arizona transfer who will likely start at RB. They also brought in a Texas St WR to help boost the receiving corps. Im not sure if it’ll help much but at least it shows they’re trying.

Here are the transfers UNC has brought in so far:

Brandon Johnson RB - Arizona
AJ Burton OL - Iowa State
Ayden Merrihew OL - Middle Tennessee
Kenny Lueth QB - Northern Illinois
TyRese Johnson DE - Washington
Mekhi Toms DB - Drake

The QB from NIU redshirted last season, but had two really productive years at American River JC. I'm always weary of JC guys in today's portal era but maybe he pans out for them. We'll see.

No, I was incorrect with my statement of UNC losing to Houston Baptist last year. UNC last played Houston Baptist in 2022 in Greeley where the Bears lost 34-46.

Even thought that game was 3 years ago, I wouldn't put it past UNC to suck so bad that they lose to Houston Baptist on the road.

It looks like he was announced in July. All those names I have came straight off of Hero Sports Transfer Tracker.

Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen were both CC/JC transfers.

Last season, UC Davis had their best season as a D-I member. Idaho had their third season in program history with double-digit wins. The Cats had 15 wins and if they would've won the natty, they'd be considered the greatest team in school history. Still, probably on the Mt. Rushmore for MSU teams...

That's all to say, today we did a segment on Nuanez Now about who in the Big Sky had a chance to have one of their greatest teams ever. Obviously, none of those schools are the answer as all will be a bit to a lot worse than a year ago.

The Griz could run the table, go undefeated and win the natty and I still don't think it would be considered the greatest team in Griz history. And that's because the Griz have had SO MANY great teams.

We talked about how NAU had only won one playoff game in school history and Sac State has only won two, so those two are easy answers for who could have an all-time great team, not because this year's version is that good but because bar is low....

And then Houghton throws out "the easiest answer to this question is Northern Colorado. Because if they win 4 Big Sky games and six overall, that's their greatest team in the D1 era". And I died laughing. And then I got really sad that they are still in the Big Sky...

I like your predictions, with the exception of the L against NAU; I say the Bears come out winners in this one.
