That the Griz did not have at least one player from Billings West on the roster for an entire season?
1897.That the Griz did not have at least one player from Billings West on the roster for an entire season?
I would have gone 1958.1897.
When was the first time someone cared if someone from Culbertson played for the Griz. When you become a Griz, all prior 'sins' of attendance are forgiven. Selah! When was first time someone from Culbertson played for Griz?
Significant date or random guess?I would have gone 1958.
I just know that Billings West opened in the late 50's and through a year out.Significant date or random guess?
Then you’re definitely closer then PRI just know that Billings West opened in the late 50's and through a year out.
First graduating class was '62, which included future Griz Warren Hill.West opened in 1959.
My guess would be 2011.That the Griz did not have at least one player from Billings West on the roster for an entire season?
I care. My dad played in 30's. When did anyone in your family play for Griz? Terry Falcon in 70's and then in NFL. Shane Cochran played several years ago. Bridger Salvevold is on team now. When was the first time someone cared if someone from Culbertson played for the Griz. When you become a Griz, all prior 'sins' of attendance are forgiven. Selah!
Growing up in Billings, playing football at Senior (I was a nobody), then officiating football in Missoula for several years, I've followed high school football in the state for a while. One thing I know is that Billings has attempted to build a 4th high school, but the bonds never pass elections.I read that attendance is 2300+ in a school designed for 1750. That might have something to do with their dominance. Kalispell, Bozeman, Missoula, Great Falls, and Helena all experienced those super-teams before adding another high school. Billings says it doesn't need a fourth high school, yet. Local politics, resistant voters, or playing MHSA rules which mandate a two year average of 801+ to be considered Class AA? Their three high schools have about 5500 students, so they should be able to draw school attendance to fit another high school. I'm just guessing, so any of you Billings MHSA people, in the know, should be able to clear this conundrum up.
Why aren't you considering Lockwood a Billings school?Growing up in Billings, playing football at Senior (I was a nobody), then officiating football in Missoula for several years, I've followed high school football in the state for a while. West, Senior, Central, Skyview, Lockwood.
That's a fair point; I briefly forgot Lockwood built its own high school. At some level, I suppose Lockwood did fulfill the 4th public school for Billings. Why aren't you considering Lockwood a Billings school?
| Central | 303 (14/15) | 369 (24/25) |
| Senior | 1,730 (14/15) | 1,661 (24/25) |
| Skyview | 1,557 (14/15) | 1,546 (24/25) |
| West | 1,883 (14/15) | 2,163 (24/25) |
| Lockwood | NA | 552 (24/25) |
Would the sprawl on the west end of Billings account for that growth? That's a fair point; I briefly forgot Lockwood built its own high school. At some level, I suppose Lockwood did fulfill the 4th public school for Billings.
Below, I've included the enrollment figures for all of the Billings high schools this year, and 10 years ago. Interesting that while most of the schools are relatively similar, West High grew significantly. I recall in high school, many of the Lockwood students attended Senior.
Central 303 (14/15) 369 (24/25) Senior
1,730 (14/15)1,661 (24/25) Skyview
1,557 (14/15)1,546 (24/25) West 1,883 (14/15) 2,163 (24/25) Lockwood NA 552 (24/25)
Interesting is that Laurel in 24/25 enrollment was 576 and in 14/15 was 649. That surprised me.Would the sprawl on the west end of Billings account for that growth?
