What is Sac’s con status for this year?

Sorry for starting a new thread about sac. Just need clarification of Sac’s con status for this year. Are they con championship/FCS playoff eligible? Asking for the BSC fantasy football league I’m starting, wondering if I should exclude them or not.

They were denied FBS status, but I don't think that changes anything with the FCS. I mean, they're still an FCS team, so it probably hasn't changed anything, except for some maneuvering embarrassment.

It’s my understanding they’re independent next year and they’re still in the BS this year. In a very quick google search, I couldn’t find anything on them not being playoff eligible, which I’m guessing they are since they’re staying in the FCS.
I think you're spot on, Alabama.

The only point I would add is their new flaming a__hole president must really be butt hurt after he slammed the FCS, and then the FBS shoots the Hornets down !!!

I would hate to see their 2026 schedule--could be kinda brutal, wa-waa .. : ( !!!

Unless the BS bails em out with some of the bottom half of the con scheduling games with them.

My guess, Alabama, is they try to load up on some Pioneer Conf.teams, and pound the nonscholarship schools like Morehead State, but assuming they schedule 3 or 4 Pioneer games, keep their rivalry with Davis, and maybe play relatively close Portland State and Cal Poly SLO, I think they probably still have to schedule 2-3 FBS bodybag, money games, and those probably really go sideways !!!

Unless we're already locked in to play them in '26 and can't get out of it--hopefully we could since they will now be nonconference--I hope that we and other top-tier Big Sky teams don't bail them out and schedule them. If their president was not such an over-the-top jerk and instead civil and cordial, I would have no problem still playing them as a nonconference game.

But that's just me.

It would be kind of satisfying if they did end up moving up to FBS and because of limited options, had to still come to WaGriz in 2026 and we thumped them. We would be something like 5-0 against FBS at WaGriz (🤫nevermind that basically all those came against Idaho).

I think Idaho's AD was told by The NCAA after the 2003 game in WA-GRIZ, from now on, the FCS school must come to your stadium to play--FBS schools do not go to FCS stadiums, so no more home and home deals between FBS and FCS schools.

That game, unlike Bobby's first home game of his Montana career earlier that year against Div. II North Dakota State where we inaugurated the new NEZ by laying an egg and losing, was fun because Idaho HC Tom Cable said he was hearing rumors before the game of UM running the option against Idaho, but Bobby swore up and down we couldn't run the option--didn't have the personnel, and then during the game out comes small and very fast Kyle Sampson @ QB, we run the option with success, and we win the game !!!

Only after Idaho dropped back into The Big Sky and the FCS in 2022 did Mr. Potato Head 🥔 return to WA-GRIZ and this time, unfortunately won.in an upset.

As of this minute, I believe they are both eligible for the BSC autobid and the FCS playoffs.

This is the correct answer. The University President and AD have said that the 2026 schedule for SAC is almost complete (is it tho?)....

I actually took a shot a schedule on www.SacBuzz.com:

So, there will be a multitude of scheduling opportunities in the coming years as several conference will be looking for more OOC games due to realignment. I have proposed a couple 2026 schedules in other threads, but knowing we'll likely be "FCS" Indy in '26 - here's a schedule that considers other teams' open dates as of now, and the fact that FCS will allow a 12-game schedule every year now.

This schedule includes the minimum (IMO) 5 home games, includes smart (financially, reputation-wise) CA rivalry games at both FCS and FBS level, and opponents that will draw attention and recruits to our program, especially if we are competitive.

Week 0 8/24/26 - vs. UC Davis (Rivalry Game)
8/31 - BYE
9/5 - vs. U. San Diego (Could amend the 2/1 to add an additional home game for us)
9/12 - @Fresno State (Already scheduled)
9/19 - vs. Lamar (Already scheduled)
9/26 - @SDSU (Road $ game to fill PAC-8 schedule)
10/3 - @UNLV (MWC foe, Marion returns!)
10/10 - vs. Cal Poly (CSU system special, would-be 12th game to add)
10/17 - @Colorado State (Road $ game to fill PAC-8 schedule, revenge opportunity for CSU)
10/24 - BYE
10/31 - @Nevada (MWC foe money game, drivable)
11/6 - @SJSU (MWC foe money game, drivable)
11/13 - vs. Tarleton State (Another FCS foe with FBS aspirations from UAC, which doesn't hate us, yet?)
11/20 - @Alabama (Pure money/exposure game)

Uhh, wrong answer. The question was your status for ‘25. Non of all of that has anything to do with ‘25.

Kadeezy honest question for you. Wouldn't you agree that the reason you've yet to get an FBS invite is because you president is hurting your image publicly? I can't help but think that if you guys were quietly conducting your business behind the scenes, you may have gotten a MWC invite just like Davis did.

just like Davis did.

Status for '25 is conference champ and FCS playoff eligible, was agreeing with that and putting forth what I thought the '26 schedule might look like as FCS Indy, as that was discussed in this thread too. Sorry I didn't spoon feed that to you. :)

It's a fair point. I'd say we're dealing with a double-edged sword... SAC athletics had been on life support until the last couple presidents in the 2010s (Nelson) and now with Dr. Wood. Is his approach sort of leftist Trumpian? Yes. Do I overlook his miscalculations in this process so far because he actually gives a damn and has made more progress on facilities and program building in the past 24 months than we did in the previous 24 years? Bet your ass I do.

I've said on SacBuzz, I've had personal conversations with Dr. Wood about athletics, and particularly football. About half of the stuff he said was imminent actually happened, which I can live with. We didn't get the PAC, MWC, or Indy, but new fees were passed dedicated to athletics, we're out of the Nest, and we have the highest paid football HC and staff in FCS, and probably over most G5 teams too. Investments are being made.

Considering the way things have gone, the only thing to do is put up or shut up. The Big West move is honestly great for the Olympic sports, with almost all of them more highly thought of than the BSC level of competition. Opponents will be names Californians know, close enough to travel to, and probably better attended. For football, this year's team is pretty much in a lose-lose. Go 12-0? You should have, good riddance, asterisk season, booooooo. Go 4-8? Whatever's not set in stone stadium, conference invite-wise, recruits, etc. will all come crumbling down, no matter what Dr. Wood tweets....

Do you believe those investments are feasible? Dr. Wood has made claims that Sac State can become not just revenue neutral, but can make so much money that the athletic department can start putting funds back into that academic side of the University. An incredibly small percentage of college football teams are revenue neutral, let alone make money. I'm curious if locals believe that potential is actually there?
