Big Sky's next move

Lots of overthinking over here. BSC took two teams instead of one because Davis is just about out the the door. Probably sooner than later. Lots of money at that place about to get deployed.

I'm fine with the additions. We had a great time staging out of Las Vegas for games in Cedar City back in the day, and now we added St George - an even easier commute with much, much better restaurants. These are epic road games for fans and can be done fairly inexpensively with a little planning.

Both conferences have some bad teams.

The difference is, unlike the bsc, the Mo Valley doesn't consistently and constantly make decisions to favor those shitty teams at the expense of their top programs. That is uniquely bsc. #bsc.
Like what? Give me some examples. Cause I do think what you're saying is true to a certain extent, but I feel like a lot of decisions lately have favored the Montana schools. For example, when the Root Sports deal expired and they replaced it with Scripps. That whole Scripps sports deal is centered around the Montana schools. The only games they air are games that feature the Montana schools. The only non-Montana games they air on Scripps are the early round games of the conference Basketball tournament. Do we think the non Montana schools were stoked about this? Probably not but at least the Big Sky prioritized their top programs in this regard. Not to mention that 75% of the games on Linear ESPN networks this year feature the Montana schools in one form or another.

Until the teams outside of the Griz, MSU and Idaho show some improvement (more than a season), generate more support at the games in terms of attendance then that's how it should be... watching some of these road games in subpar high school stadiums with 2500 fans watching is an embarrassment ...

That entire deal favors everyone but the Montana schools.

The reason scripps shows Montana games is because the viewership numbers are overwhelmingly higher than those of non-Montana programs. And yet the conference demanded that a game not include them.

So Montana should be getting 90% of the media rights, but gets 1/13th. And can you even begin to imagine the SEC telling CBS, "I know no one will watch, but you can't show Bama and Georgia". It's just so silly.

You could also talk about the move of the BB tournament to a neutral location. That was done only after the lowly, broke programs complained about high hotel costs. The argument about "fair competition" is complete bullshit, as they didn't move any of the other championships to neutral locations. It's all about money: taking it from the successful programs and giving it to the ewoos, the noco's and the fat ass rich cats in the league office.

EWU was on that track and had several well attended seasons before Best blew up the program... Though the stadium is small we were at max (I think sometimes over) capacity even for non Montana games. Of course now things have dropped off a lot, but attendance is still higher on average than before EWU's championship.

Won't happen but I wish we could seriously pursue the "Snow Belt" option and team up with like minded schools who are actually serious about Atheltics and see if we could get into FBS as a Conference:

Montana..........MSU
Idaho................Idaho State
NDSU...............SDSU
UND..................USD
UNI...................Weber/*Wyoming

* = Purely Wishful Thinking

Everett idk how you’re coming up with your math, but literally every Scripps game shows either the Griz or the cats. They don’t broadcast a single game that doesn’t feature either Montana team. So that’s just wrong. As for ESPN, I’m ok with the other schools getting one game, especially since it’s on a Friday night. Montana schools still get 75% of the ESPN games and 100% of the Scripps games. These deals absolutely favor the top programs.

As for a neutral site, I realize that’s still a sore subject but the times have changed. 29 of 31 conferences hold their tournaments at neutral sites. Unfortunately we live in a different world than we did 10 years ago. I will say though that I’m not a fan of Boise and would much prefer Spokane. Maybe one day.

You’re a good poster Everett and you care deeply about the Griz and I admire that. That said, I would push back slightly on your claims.

This is FCS football in general. If a person is fine with the Griz being FCS, then this is a dumb complaint.
My complaint, dumb or otherwise really stems from the fact that most of FCS football ie. facilities and general game day support just isn't up to normal standards(whatever those are?)...while we are blessed with a great stadium, excellent attendance and fan support most aren't, but also they aren't really trying either ... The better conferences regardless of their division do a great job of supplemental support for the schools, set some level of expectation and generally hold their membership to those standards. So I'm fine with our schedule half of the year when we play at home and then it's hit or miss... yeah so it's a complaint, misguided maybe...dumb not so much!

You could argue that most are up to normal FCS standards. Griz fans have a penchant of thinking that UM/MSU/NDSU are the standard.

I suppose all those at UM/MSU/NDSU feel they set the standard or set a level all others strive to achieve... still doesn't excuse the lack of effort and execution from many of the others...

I had not looked here in a while but I saw Texas State news joining the PAC?, I thought let’s see the BSC news. Then I see this news of these two Utah schools joining. One we had before and a newer DII ish program.
Frankly it’s sad really that Griz will be stuck in this. Stuck in it just like MSU is. The sad part is all of the money spend to build what both schools have. But honestly at this point why even invest that much. The BSC and FCS as a whole is way watered down to what it was 10-15 years ago.
Why invest the funds for really nothing in return. Media right deals pay nothing, FCS payouts pay next to nothing. So realistically why?
No I’m not a bad fly by night fan. I have been a Griz fan since high school days 87-91. This fan bleeds maroon and that’s why this stings so bad.
We seriously should be in a similar place as Appy State and GSU when they moved up.
I know you can say where do we go and that’s true for sure. But my point is we might have had other options had we made our interests known and sold ourselves as it were.
Maybe that’s going on behind closed doors and being kept low key. But if that’s the case why really? Is it because we have cold feet or afraid of failure?
All is know is I don’t think we can just stay exactly as we are. I think we ether have to build and move upwards or decide that we know sports in Missoula and really in Montana are just 3rd level at best being the Power programs, Mid Level (group of 5) programs and then what really will be FCS/DivIII.

Dear Remaining BSC athletic directors,
Please please do not schedule Sac St ooc in football. They want to be independent let them find opponents outside of BSC!

Why should Idaho , Montana and Montana State give them a game that will bring them any spotlight???
