I agree Everett. I too was a little surprised they took SUU back. I suppose the logic would be get to 7 teams in Men's Golf and Softball and have one more than the bare minimum and then if Davis were to leave, hen we're back to 12 teams in Football. 11 in Basketball is not a great number, but it will allow us to play 20 conference games now, and I'm sure that was appealing. Also I found it a little bit odd that San Diego's AD gave me a follow on Twitter. Perhaps something to keep an eye on.

Alot of Oly sports don't have the full 11 members playing it and with Basketball rumored to go up to 32-33+ Regular Season games (forget the number) having 20 Conference games goes a long way to help with scheduling.
In 2030-31 when the ACC backfills from the American and with them and the PAC potentially poaching from the MWC to backfill themselves is our best chance. We HAVE to be aggressive at that point as it's realistically our last chance, the wishful thinking in me would be both Montanas, Dakota States (Football only if necessary) and Idaho make the move.
A sad state of affairs in college athletics is that remaining relevant is a full time job... it appears that if you are going to come out ahead you need to hire someone full time to keep on top of this ever changing environment as well as to manage the PR and public opinion. More than ever contingency planning and not getting caught by surprise are issues the AD has to deal with vs. actually managing his/her athletic dept. and the athletes/coaches in their charge...

That's really funny. One of the things I like about Montana is that it is a little bush. Any other conference you might go to, it would make them a little more bush, and I don't see much wrong with that.

Hmmm, Had to think about this for a minute but I came to the conclusion that for my personal health issues I would rather have an overeducated socialist doctor than an undereducated doctor of any political or ideologic persuasion.
I prefer my witch doctor. He does a lot of chanting and dancing, and I leave feeling refreshed. Let me know if you need Papa Shango's number, he is very apolitical and is tops when it comes to witch doctors.
Walk me through how conference scheduling will look for basketball with 11 teams.
Probably similar to what the ACC does where they play 2 conference games in early December and then resume conference play after the new year. The good news though is they have over a year to figure it out and I still don't rule out them adding one more member(I'm looking at you San Diego).

Right, but how does each week play out with an odd number of teams, and no set travel partners? This is the part coaches hate.
One way they handled it previously when SUU was still in the league and the conference had 11 teams was to have one team (I believe it was most recently UNC) that didn't have a travel partner and acted more as a "floater" team to fill gaps in the schedule where a team might otherwise have only played one game in a week. For example, a weekend schedule might have looked like:
Thursday: Weber State hosts Idaho State
Saturday: Weber State hosts UNC
Monday: Idaho State hosts UNC
Instead of Weber & ISU playing only one game against their travel partner they each get a second game against UNC, one on a Thursday/Saturday schedule and one on Thursday/Monday. UNC plays a normal road trip but on Saturday/Monday instead of Thursday/Saturday. The downside here of course is that there's one rivalry game that isn't easily moved to a Thursday like in the example above. But they'll make it work...likely with a couple more Monday games involved than the two per season each team plays in the current 10-team schedule format.
IDK for sure but right now I would guess that on the rivalry weeks where you typically only have one game that week, you're probably gonna end up playing two games. Once on Saturday against your rival, and then once on Monday against the odd man out. That's at least what I would do any way.
Yes. And coaches (and everyone else) hated it then, and they'll hate it now because it's awkward.
So, I ask the question again: why force an awkward situation by taking two bad programs when you should have only taken one bad program?
