Top 10 Returning Running Backs in FCS

Should be good for recognition and a sizable increase in NIL money from his next school in 2026.

I kid I kid. I knew he had to be a top 3 pick when I started reading it when it was tweeted out.

If the Griz offense would let the QB hand off more to Gillman, he would lead the nation in rushing! No less than 20-25 carries per game.

He's a stud, and a great kid.
I agree but then they'd only score 17 points a game and end up 6-6. Modern game says you need to stretch the field to compete...I'd actually love it if they threw him the ball more out of the backfield...
I think the idea is also to keep him fresh and healthy for late in the season. Between Fonoti, Rocker, and Jones, we should be able to spread the ball around and make sure we are always jamming a fresh guy down their throat.

If the young man doesn't isn't utilized enough, he will leave to a school who will play him more...This is something that everyone needs to be aware of. If he gets 25 + carries a game, he will score TD's and the score will not be 17-whatever because of it. I don't have the totals, but I bet if one did the figures, it would show his TD rate per number of carries in most games is very good. If defenses have to key on our running game, our WR's will have field days... I may be all wrong, but I remember back with Chase Reynolds running all the time and how awesome it was.

A lot of things have changed in the game in the last 20 years so I don’t think you can compare him to Chase, Lex, or Yo. Especially with the RPO game. Your point is a good one that we should use him while we have him in the era of the portal because next year isn’t a guarantee. However, I believe that part of him staying here is not beating the hell out of him. Monte being here is a selling point for staying. His family is certainly happy with his current role. He will be the face of the program for the next 2 years. Physically this year and next, he should be a man amongst boys. Junior getting drafted is a selling point to stay, especially when you have a guaranteed starting role, but RB has been so devalued by the league that it’s a tough go regardless.

He only had 15 or more carries twice last year (15 VS Missouri State, 20 VS Tennessee State) yet scored 15 Rushing TD's. So scored every 11 rushing attempts. that is very impressive, for being used that little.

Total FCS Stats
-Rushing yards-- 28th (1104 yards)
-Rushing Yards Per Carry-- 7th (6.6)
-Rushing TD's -- 11th (15)
-Rushing Attempts -- 22nd (167)

I find it hilarious how many people on here think it's just that simple that we should give the ball to Eli 20+ times a game and everything will be A-OK. First off, Eli isn't that type of RB who can ground and pound 20+ carries every game. He's a big play rb who changes the momentum of the game, and not a RB you use to control the clock. Now Fonoti on the other hand is a RB who could handle 20+ carries a game, punishing the defense with 3 plus yards every carry and controlling the clock.
You use Eli too much and that big play ability goes right out the window. Eli has managed to stay healthy and play every game because we don't over use him. You give him 20+ carries a game next year with no byes and halfway through the season he's either injured or banged up bad.
I also see Fonoti taking Ostmos place next year as the #2 to change up the pace when Eli is taking a break.

I agree 100% with this. I would like to see Rocker get a few more touches also. Especially in passing game.

Yes most definitely, I think Rocker should be in the mix. I just wasn't sure of how people adjust after having the type of surgery he's had. But we definitely need to utilize our rbs more in the passing game. Reminds me of the 99 Rams who were one of the first to utilize Marshall Faulk in the passing game and he couldn't be stopped.

OK, get Eli involved in the passing game more. It doesn't matter to him, just get him the ball more and give him a chance. He is a tough kid and can with stand 20 carries per game. But that doesn't mean he couldn't get injured on the first play of the year. Anyone who can predict when an injury will occur is probably doing the wrong job....

I always thought the coaches would use Eli more as he got older. There may have been an over-correction after Ostmo's experience which had him thinking of hanging up his cleats early.

My prediction would be that the coaches maintain a committee approach. I have no inside info on that, but Hauck has definitely talked about it. I'm not saying it is the right approach or the wrong approach, but we often see this staff have a belief in doing things a certain way and sticking with that until the wheels fall off.

What surgery did Rocker have?
