the other bob who had a great workout for the pro's

i always hoped he would do well in the nfl, looks like he's on thin ice it atlanta...
It helps him that they didn't draft any linebackers, so that will buy him time. He's had a bad run of injuries that have made it hard to keep him on the field.

I've heard he is kind of looking forward to coming home to ranching once he hangs the cleats up.

Kind of what happens when you get used and abused for your whole college career. Not many miles left on the tread. Too bad. He’s a hell of an athlete.

This is why anyone who predicts certain success for a player like Merlott is crazy. There is always a new group of young players entering the league, many of whom are bigger, stronger, faster and -- perhaps most importantly in the NFL -- cheaper.

I think Tommy will do well..if he stays healthy. Just like Andersen. Troy's biggest issue is staying healthy not his play. The average NFL career is a little over 3 years. It all depends on how you define success in the NFL. Is making a roster success? A second contract success? I think Tommy will make the roster at least at some point this season. As a Raiders fan I think he probably ended up in a good spot because they are not as loaded as other teams at receiver and they don't have an established return guy. This article from Raiders Reporter from The Athletic had this little bit about Tommy yesterday.

• Sixth-round pick Tommy Mellott got significant action at slot receiver. The rookie played quarterback in college but is being converted to receiver. On one rep, he made cornerback Darnay Holmes fall on an in-and-out route before hauling in a pass from Smith and turning upfield.

Given how hard he was ridden in college I never gave him a chance of lasting even THIS long in the NFL. Broken down body...sad.

Who's younger, stronger, faster and cheaper than Mellott at this point?
Mellott is smart, hard working and cheap in the grand scheme of things. Can he consistently catch the ball, stay healthy and compete against top level competition in the NFL? Hard to say but I like his chances. I think Everett is correct though. There is a reason the average players tenure is so short in the not for long league.

Character matters. Colt Anderson made it a long time in the league because of his work ethic and great locker room guy. Same thing goes for Tommy.

We get it. You’re really hoping he doesn’t do well. Point made. Move on.

I honestly don't care one way or the other. I just find it curious everyone thinks he'll be an NFL star because he's a good kid from Montana.

Maybe he will. Odds are against it, though. That's my point.
I think the point is he is an NFL draft pick at a position where he grades at or better than many - even most...and he is getting nothing but positive feedback from staff and media. He has a legit shot at playing elite, professional football and he is a rock-solid MT kid.

Hope he signs a 2nd and 3rd contract.

Pretty cool.

And you’ve been beating that point like a drum anytime anyone mentions him and nfl at all. If you’re not hating on the kid, that’s the way it’s certainly coming across.

Hope he is successful and if anyone has the work ethic to make the transition and grind out a roster spot year in and year out he does.

Just to clearly understand your statement, you were talking about grading out with measurables from pro day correct? I don’t see that he would grade out in anything but speed at this point when put up against other receivers. I guarantee his footwork and route running abilities are not at the upper echelon at this point or maybe even average. He is a risky draft pick as he hasn’t played the position at a high level except reps during his freshman year. They drafted him purely on his potential. Knowing his work ethic had to alleviate many concerns associated with the risk, but could never take all the risk out. There’s been a lot of Tebows in this league, but there’s been a few Edelmans which is his and their hope.
