New Signing -- Jose Balver-Mendoza, Kennesaw State

The years I was certain were 2008 and 2009.
Do you mean during the playoffs, or before the year started?

I just ask because that offseason before 2008 was fucking depressing around here.

If you were indeed convinced we had a team that year, you were STRONGLY against the grain here where the majority of people really and truly believed we were going 3-8 lol

I never felt it in 2004, 2008 or 2009. I feel it this year. We just need our QB position to be stable. Not good, not great just stable for the RPO.
Not trying to rain on your parade, but why exactly do you feel this is the year? Tons of new faces, especially on D, just not sure how you can project a natty from players we’ve never seen play a single down.

Agree, '75, our team is as deep as it has ever been, at least that I can remember, but that's right now only on paper !!!:Now, we must put all of this preseason talent together on the field come September. And I am confident this will happen given a pretty favorable schedule and barring many devastating, season-ending injuries, but we're going to have to win our way on the field to challenge for a NC from Sept. through Dec., and not by talking on how good we are on e griz in late May !!!

With all the portal transfers that the Griz have had, wouldn't other teams in the Big Sky Conference also be recipients of transfers as well? So, right now, it's pretty even on expectations for most, if not all, teams in the BSC. I'll have a 'wait and see' approach, myself.

Because success is only about transfers?

Other than Sac State, no teams have gotten transfers with the pedigree that the Griz have. MSU, for instance, barely added anyone at all.

There isn't another team in the Big Sky that is signing kids out of the portal that had been All Big Sky in the past.

Not trying to be argumentative, just throwing out there that other Big Sky teams really haven't been the recipients of similar portal guys. Now, maybe they don't work out, but for now the Griz seem to be head and shoulders above everyone else in the transfer portal (excluding Sac State)

I meant as the seasons progressed...

Bobby said on the Inside the Den Podcast last night that despite all the transfers they've brought in, we have 63 returning players on the team this year. He seemed rather optimistic about the season which caught my attention cause he usually he doesn't say much about how he feels about a team coming into the season. He did say that they were using the portal pretty hard to go after line men pretty hard cause once guys go down to injuries on the OL, you become uncompetitive pretty quickly. Thought it was an interesting discussion.

I wish they'd get 1 more NT kind of lineman though...for that exact reason.

It is very hard to argue against your point. I do think this team is shaping up to be one that can make a very deep playoff run and possibly go all the way. Lots of beef has been brought in. Experienced players and the competition in fall camp is going to be intense. My major concerns were both lines, LB’s and secondary. QB of course was also a concern. My doubts about both lines have been cleared up. LB’s should be very solid. Secondary appears to be coming together. Tremendous speed with the receiving corps. Tough to find a better group of backs in the nation. Now the QB situation. Damn I am tired of that position being a question mark every single year. I think the Griz will have a QB settle in and cement the starting role early in the year. I just hope BH doesn’t make a mess of that position. I would give him a D- last year in QB management. No, I don’t want to hear about the QB coach. I ain’t buying that argument.

IMO, you are over thinking the Griz team this year. For example, you are concerned about the QB position. Just face it we don't have a known, proven, quality QB that we can hand over the reins to. However, we have 2 QBs who I feel can run an efficient, business-like offense and an outstanding backup in Luke Flowers.

I feel the Griz staff has done an outstanding job recruiting for our deficiencies and depth. Your major concerns have been lowered or eliminated. Our team still has 60+ returnees who are a year older. Many of the transfers are proven and can contribute immediately. They are academically smart, have on field experience and some have very high credentials such as - all Conference, all American or honorable mention from their last conference.

You admit our team has "speed", improved OL/DL and our LBs are very solid.

The proof of how good the Griz team this year will be its W - L record. I, personally, feel it will be outstanding. It is not going to be the uniforms or if we are on ESPN2 or ESPNU streaming or the polls.

To me the Griz have the "IT" factor this year. It has been 59 years since I have been a freshman at UM. I've seen the ups and downs of the FB team. There is something special in the air. I just feel it.

The “IT” factor has to do with culture and leadership. If you are paying close attention you will recognize that there is a reason there are many out of state transfers coming in and the majority of in state HS kids deciding to go elsewhere. We are a long ways away from the days of old.

Weren't the "days of old" coached by the same guy with the same culture?
