FCS QB Article

Did we ever get a convincing answer on why the offensive line just inexplicably stopped blocking and watched Vidlak get destroyed against NAU? I have never seen anything like it. I've heard illness, but has anyone ever gotten an actually convincing explanation of what happened in that game? It feels like we went on an incredible run to the natty, and everybody sort of glossed over it

Not a satisfactory explanation. It was a very negative optic event that many did not want to highlight.

The FCS lost some good QB's both to graduation and the portal this offseason. That said though, I personally like Garbalis at Tarleton. He's the real deal. Bouman at USD is also good but I'll be curious to see what he does with a completely new look offense this year. We didn't get to see Ty Pennington at NAU last year as he was injured when they came to Missoula. I think if I remember correctly, they were on their 3rd string QB against us last year. NAU will be sneaky this year. Probably a good year to miss them lol. Don't know much about any of those other guys but these are the three that stand out to me.

I heard a double whammy…..most of the team was battling the flu but also a lot of guys thought Big Cliff was a better leader and deserved to be out there over Sam and wanted him to get the reins.

I’m really happy for Sam. I remember talking him up quite a bit when he was on our roster because I knew he could absolutely spin it and his potential was through the roof. I took a little bit of grief for that so I was always happy to see him kick some ass once he left. Looks like he is now a Payton award potential QB.

Bouman is the son of a former Minnesota Vikings quarterback and a lot of people in Minnesota wanted him to be recruited by the Minnesota Gophers. Except, in typical Gopher fashion, they passed on him. He has proven himself to be a very accomplished quarterback at the FCS level. I believe the one knock on him was his accuracy when he had limited space from which to throw (defenders were close to him). I haven't watched him much so I don't know if he has overcome that deficit.

Man - if the 2nd part of that whammy is true, WTF? Makes me wonder about their character.

Water under the bridge now, but sheesh.
