Patrick Matan - 6'4" 301lb OL from NC State transfers in

The 6-foot-4, 302-pounder from Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga High was a Rivals.com three-star prospect. He was the backup right tackle this past season for the Wolfpack, but mostly played on special teams. He appeared in three games and 14 snaps this past season.

Matan played 65 snaps in 37 career games at NC State, which was the first school he unofficially visited in March of 2019. He officially visited NC State in June and verbally committed June 8, 2019.

Matan collected additional Power Five offers from Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse.

It's right there in his post, 1 year of eligibility left.:)
Yes, it definitely said that. But shouldn't it be two years? That was my question.

He didn't play in 2020 and played in two games in 2021. So one of those should/could be a red shirt year if they apply for a waiver? I don't pretend I know the intricacies of the waivers, but we seem to have done very well at getting them in recent years for our guys.

I see nothing that would lead me to think a waiver is possible and this is a one-year thing.

I mean, is there a reason that Klimczak, Shafer, Botner, and Walker could get one and he can't? I'm not trying to be argumentative or anything, maybe he only wants to play one year. But we sent Klimczak and Botner out for senior day last year, so even at that point we were thinking they didn't have a year and they got one. This Matan kid has an even better argument than some of them do.

What exactly is his argument?

Unless there is a season he sat out due to medical reasons, he only has 1 year remaining.

2020- Covid
2021- RS
2022- RS Freshman
2023- RS Sophomore
2024- RS Junior
2025- RS Senior/Grad

Klimczak - Medical RS 2022
Botner- Medical RS 2023
Walker- Medical RS 2019
Shafer- 2025 is his 5th year. He didn’t declare a RS in 2021 but had it granted with a waiver after playing in only 2 games

Great ! I like how he looks.I don't care if he has 6 months to play at the start of the school year.He will start and be a great addition.

Right, wouldn't this kid of the same argument as Shafer or Walker? Walker played for 7 years, if I'm remembering right.

Matan didn't play during the Covid season, then only played in two games in 2021, played in 2022, 2023, and 2024. A lot of guys are getting a 5th year of eligibility.

Like I said, though, I'm no expert on this. I was asking, and maybe the answer is that I'm just wrong.

This day and age, anything is possible. All we are saying is that on the surface, there is nothing that makes it seem like more than a 1 year signing. It will be his 6th year of school.

With the lawsuits and the anything goes mentality that exists right now, I'm not sure you are wrong. But it's possibly not a question that could be answered until the end of this season as he would probably have to request and receive a waiver. I think the one certainty over the last few years is that there's a lot of uncertainty and rapid change in regard to the rules. So my take on it would be at this point he has one year of eligibility. By the end of the season that could change.
