Grey Zabel

Okay my Seahawks drafted Zabel with the 18th pick, I myself thought it was an over reach and we could have gotten a better guard down the draft, Zabel mostly played Tackle and Seahawks view him as a Guard/Center, what do you guys think of him as a player? Reach or perfect player? Make me feel better about this pick.

Seems wild to take a guard that high in the first round, but I hate the Seahawks, so whatever. lol

I think Zabel is a really good OL, though.

Only A+ on Yahoo Sports ratings

18. Seattle Seahawks: OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State)

Grade: A+

Huge pick up for Seattle right here. The Seahawks have added a versatile guard who's loaded with potential and can play a variety of spots up front. Zabel has good film, nailed the all-star game circuit and blew up the Combine. This is as clean as clean gets and he can fill guard or tackle for the Seahawks.

I think it was a solid pick. Not sure why you feel it was a reach, as I suspect he had a late first round grade by most teams. I also don't believe there was a better guard to be found down the draft.

Yes, when there is no reason to even ask the question in the first place.

What would make you question his character?
I didn’t question anyone’s character. I asked a question about the dialogue around the 2022 and 2023 seasons. I don’t have an opinion on it unlike you and whatever issue you seem to have with Cole.

But this draft lacks blue chip talent, so if there was any draft to take guard, this is probably the one. I also think if you look back at draft history, picking a guard around 18 isn't an oddity.
I've been tongue in cheek for most of this, but taking a guard in the first has historically been pretty meh value. For every Quenton Nelson, there are plenty of guys who didn't get a second contract with their team. The plus side is that Guards are cheaper than Tackles, but spending first round capital on a position that only gets marginally better first round performance over players taken later that could've been spent on a more valuable position doesn't make sense, to me.

I do think Zabel is a fantastic OL, though, so maybe they'll get a good one (I hope not lol).

My team also takes the opposite approach of just picking up random guys from bus stops to play guard, so it's not like we're doing any better on that front lol

I just think this isn't a great draft and you take value where you see it.
