Respect for Eli

College sports have changed, but this guy has a really good big-picture perspective of what is valuable in Life. Tell Eli - can I get a "Hell Yeah" ?

Gillman, whose younger brother Monte is also on the team, has put together a tremendous two year stretch at Montana that's put him on track to break multiple program records. He currently ranks fifth in school history for rushing touchdowns (28), seventh in total touchdowns (30) and seventh in rushing yards (2,137). Gillman, the 2023 Jerry Rice Award winner, is on pace to break all three of those records by the time his maroon and silver career comes to a close.

"I love Montana," said Gillman. "I've loved it ever since I first visited here as a junior in high school. So I have nothing to leave for. I love this place. It has the best fans in the world, best teammates in the world, best brotherhood I've ever been a part of so there's nothing better out there for me... I am here for a reason. God put me in this place for a reason, I'm not going to do anything different because the media does this or the media does that. I'm just gonna do me and it's great to see that reciprocation of love from the Missoula fans."

It’s refreshing to see this type of attitude in the new era of NIL and portal. It was really good to see Monte out there during the spring game as well. He’s damn fast, and I imagine he is pretty elusive. Glad they get to play college ball together.

I’ve had a few interactions with Eli in the community and after games. It’s actually one thing I really love about our program and community. That connection and access we have to the players. On Saturday after the spring game, we just happened to back out of a parking spot at a store and saw Eli walking up the aisle towards the store. My wife rolled down the window and gave him a “Go Griz!” as he walked by. He just turned and flashed that million dollar smile. The same smile you see on the sideline all the time. He does seem like he is happy and enjoying his time as a griz. Just as we enjoy having him in the program. Look forward to cheering him on again this fall.

Eli comes from a great family and was raised by great parents. He's as grounded a person as you will ever meet and the same goes for his brother.

You could see it during his high school playing days how much the Dassel-Cokato fans loved him and not because he was a phenomenal football player but because he was a genuine person.

Next time, ask him a general run of the mill life question such as "What your favorite food?" or "What's your favorite thing to do outside of football?"

I assume the fans have helped him a long the way with
NIL money which I am sure he needs and deserves. There was a roster spot opened up for his brother also. It's been a great match for all concerned. He is a special player and a great person.

Definitely. My wife and I love getting to chat with these guys about life outside of football when the appropriate situation presents itself. Never like holding any of them up when they are just going about their business. They commit so much time to the game and university, would hate to monopolize any of their free time. Have enjoyed some really good conversations with guys after their playing days as well. As an alum and fan we are very lucky and very blessed with what we have here in Montana.

This….this is where the grammar police should step in. Because…why can’t you love him anymore? You loved him before, but can’t now? Or is it…can’t love him any more? Man I love this guy…can’t love him more than I do!

Hahaha…sorry Everett…just tired and felt a bit pesty
Dammit. And I pride myself on getting shit like this correct, too.

Time to give Strunk and White another read through, I guess.

Get him, Doc!!!

You get apologies - if it were me I would get reamed. We can clearly see who fits in the egriz buddy, buddy group and who does not.
I don't know Everett, nor do I know you. Generally if I make a comment like this, I apologize so that my snarky remark doesn't come off as the typical A-hole comment regarding such matters as grammar. Also, I don't usually correct grammar. This was one I couldn't pass up. So please don't "loose" your mind over it...certainly wasn't about you.
