MBBALL Kadyn Betts Commits!

LFG! Not much game experience, but comes in with 2 years to play and the ability to petition for a medical RS for the 23/24 season. Go Griz!
This recruiting of Kadyn Betts out of the transfer portal from another UM suggests to me that Travis is indeed coming back. Why go recruiting out of the portal if you--Travis DeCuire--are headed off to somewhere else next year ?

Combine this announcement of Kadyn becoming a GRIZ, showing Travis, Chris, Jay and the rest of the staff are vigorously recruiting from the portal with the regional jobs all being filled and I am a little more confident that the DeCuire era @ UM continues through at least 25-26. And while I would love to see a big dog and pony show announcing a new well-deserved 4 year contract extension for Travis and a fat raise for him and Chris, Jay, and the rest of his staff, we may have to wait until after the portal closes in April.

To me this kid is a gamble due to injury. He will also be a minor project with potential and good upside. Could be an enforcer if developed properly. That would be good for the Griz.

I agree this could be a great pickup. He seems like a wonderful kid.

But if we're to have any chance in the Big Dance, this does not solve our "big man" problem. We still need a bigger post player that can score in the paint and defend the rim.

Small ball is wonderful, I've touted it ever since the Warriors introduced it. Problem is, everybody has now eclipsed small ball by getting bigger and developing bigs who can shoot lights out from deep.

I believe the official end of small ball was when Karl Anthony Townes won the three-point contest. Bigs these days can shoot lights out from anywhere on the court.

No, we need another post player, a la Brian Qvale. Size maters, especially at the Big Dance. Just difficult to get at our level.

Keep an eye on San Diego State big man Demarshay Johnson. 6'10 big man is from Oakland and the staff is following his Instagram. I think we got a good shot. Plus it will be a big help if Sawyer is back next year.
