MBBALL 2025 Big Sky Conference Transfer Tracker

I heard that there are currently over 1000 D1 players in the portal.
There are 352 D1 teams with approximately 15 players rostered…so 5280 student athletes. It’s insane to think that approximately 20% are in the portal looking for spots and the tournament isn’t even over yet.

I actually think this reflects a broadening of college athletics: A team may not be a fit for the player, for the coaches, or for both. In some cases players may decide the location or academic offerings do not suit them. Some might prefer to step down a level just so they can play, not sit. The numbers also reflect the first step, for players, to adjust their vision of themselves as athletes, student-athletes or students.

End of the Week Update:
Total Entries into the portal: 1,000 since Monday (1,500 overall)
Big Sky Conference: 48 from BSC Teams.

-- 1 1st Team All conference (Reynolds)
-- 2 2nd Team All conference (Towt/Moore)

Team Most Hurt: 1. NAU 2. UNC 3. EWU
Team Who has helped itself the most so far: Too early to know. Idaho State keeping Darling a week in to the transfer portal does seem like a win.

I noticed that Cobb, Flores and Reuben Williams are all following that SDSU big man Demarshay Johnson on Instagram. I tried to look for his twitter but it does not appear he has one. So I’ll keep an eye on IG.

Demarshay was a Griz offer when he was in HS. In fact if I remember right it was a near get of him out of HS. He hasn't played much for SDSU, but comes with a solid defensive pedigree.

A few other players to keep an eye on...I don't have anything to go on, but these are guys with previous recruiting connections.

SG- Dylan Chavez -formerly of New Mexico (from Albuquerque, followed by Flores)
PG- Marcus Wilson- formerly of Washington State (from Albuquerque, followed by Flores)
SG-Adrian McIntyre-Westmont College
PG-6’6’’ ! Deundrae Perteete Jr Westmont College PAC West Frosh of the year

C-Austin Maurer- formerly of GCU (from Portland, followed by Cobb and Flores) He's a 7 footer. so that would be nice.

I’d throw in Vaughn Weems from NIC as well.

Great size, looks like a PF/4.
Didn't play much at MN.
Looks like an upside potential pick up.
He can stretch the floor as well.
Hopefully he can defend and rebound.
At a minimum he should fill in nicely to Zack Davidson’s spot. They’re the exact same size so it’s easy in that respect. Plus 30 games in the Big 10 isn’t nothing. Sure he doesn’t have the flashy stat line but a couple things he brings is another big body that can help on the glass, which is an area we lacked in this year, and he also shot 40% from three this year. And with guys like Patterson and likely Moore going out the door, we can use perimeter shooters. I predict this guy will at a minimum be a key rotational piece next year.

Love this portal pickup! Go Griz!

One thing Ben Johnson and the Minnesota coaches, namely Dave Thorson, would have taught Kadyn is defense!

Here's the excerpt from Sports Illustrated article:

"Betts was a former three-star recruit in the class of 2022, and he chose Minnesota over top offers from Nebraska, Colorado State and Wyoming. He was never able to find his footing with the Gophers, but he will now bring two years of eligibility and some intriguing potential to the Big Sky Conference."
