Hey all, it is time for the silly season. Transfer season is upon is and we are starting to see nationally (particularly at lower levels) players who have stated they are going to be available in the portal.

Portal PeriodDatesProcess:
Open PortalMarch 24th to April 22nd 2025Any player regardless of college experience. Here is what the process looks like:
1. Student notifies school of their desire to transfer and school submits paperwork.
2. Schools are free to contact any player directly who is in the portal and vice-versa.
Restricted PortalApril 23 to August 1st (approx)After the open period closes,
1. Students may still submit their names into the portal and do not have to sit out upcoming year provided this is their Free transfer or Grad Transfer.
2. Schools cannot add players to their roster if it exceeds their NCAA roster maximum (15).
ClosedAugust 1st and beyond.During the closed portal period:
1. They cannot transfer for immediate eligibility another school during the same academic/athletic school year.
2. Rosters are considered to be locked at this point. Schools can delete/remove players from but cannot add unless they meet very specific criteria.

Other Notes:
  • Basketball will be reclassified as an equivalency sport. Allowing schools to distribute scholarships as either full or partial awards. Rosters will be capped at 15.

Weber has 5 seniors leaving and has signed 4 HS kids already. Weber does not plan to split any scholarships. On paper, that would leave us with one spot to fill with a grant. As usual, There will likely be 3 to 5 walk ons, 2 to be rostered. I don't know this for certain, but I fully expect there will be a couple of out transfers. There usually is and it is usually the guys who seldom see the floor. There is certainly no expectation to keep players who have close to 0 chance of ever contributing at our level. With that said, I fully expect that Weber will bring in 2 to 3 transfers, either portal or JC. There could always be a surprise or two.

Much more Criswell than Moody
I agree, his stop and go is incredible. Putting him on Rilley(?) last night helped a lot. Whitney, as tough as he is, got bullied down low a bit.

Kai’s toughness is unmatched. Excellent effort every game, plays with attitude, plays smart, and finishes in really precarious situations around the rim, in traffic. Really incredible get for for Coach D.

He had a couple of blocks on defense that stunned me - against guys 4-6 inches taller than him. Insane athleticism and effort.

Man did he really end up being a bust. If I remember correctly, it was a two horse race between us and the cats to land him and we thought we had the inside track since he was teammates with Kai. I think we dodged a bullet there lol.
We looked at him as well. Just shows you how much of a crap shoot recruiting really is. The team that was truly lucky in getting transfers last year was ISU. Some of their guys really showed out.

So much of recruiting the portal is based on how much you have in NIL money. I don't expect that to change much this year either. Weber has some specific needs. With minimal resources, it will be interesting to see what we can land. There are already some good prospects hitting the portal. The ones hitting the portal now are grad transfers and players who's coaches are no longer with the team. The good ones will be after some real scratch.
