MBBALL Time to Re-Up Travis

Would you feel the same if they lose in the Tourney?
That’s a very good question and difficult one to answer. I know and like Travis a lot. What he has managed to do this is amazing. The fact that he brought in 9 portal players who didn’t know each other, had never played together and molded into a cohesive unit is truly remarkable. I think he has established a good recruiting class and besides he has/will have the most wins of any grizzlies coach with his next win.
So after all this I think I can say without fear of contradiction, yes, even if the Griz were to have an early exit I would still want Travis to get an extension. However, I would be pissed because I wouldn’t have anything to do in Boise.

There is always Chandler's, Sport, of course between GRIZ victories and within walking distance of The Idaho Central Arena--pretty good eats and atmosphere !!!

To be clear, I don't think anyone should feel different than you do. I think he has more than proven himself, but i do remember many people in Boise last year saying "Is he the coach that can get us over the top" after the loss to MSU.

I was one of those folks wondering (though I wasn’t in Boise) and was questioning whether it would be time to move on when his contract was up. If the team looked similar to the last few years I would have been in favor of moving on should UM chose.

I hope Haslam has told or will tell Travis tonight or tomorrow something like, " Congrats, Coach on a historic season !!! We are working on a new 4 year deal for you, Chris, Jay and the rest of the staff, and I'll show it to you and discuss it with you, Coach, after our season ends !!! "

That’d be nice, but after everything that happened at the end of the Scheweyen tenure, hell would freeze over before that happened.

I love Shannon, our Billings basketball girl prodigy, but she won The Big Sky as a player, not as a coach. I think Haslam needs to take the initiative to let Travis know how much we appreciate him without distracting now from coaching his/our team in The Big Dance because Travis's phone is going to soon start ringing, maybe as soon as tomorrow, maybe even yet tonight.

We are in agreement, I just worded that poorly. All I was saying was that if any offer were to happen between now, and then it would be through official channels rather than a in person chat or texting about what the university may or may not do.Which is how Haslam got in a little hot water with the Shannon situation.

Okay, the season is over, Haslam did a quick and great job in hiring Coach Harris, and now it's time for him to pull out that GRIZ checkbook and just like MSU just did with their great women's coach Trish Binford, sign Travis to a new four-year contract and give him and his hard-working staff ( Chris, Jay, Reuben, etc.) a fat raise !!! ( And then cross our collective fingers and toes that Travis decides to stay @ UM !!! )

Comparison to MSU. C'mon, he ain't had even ONE DUI! 🙄

The question to rehire Travis is a moot point. The real question is Chris Cobb, and to a degree Jay Flores. Chris has been with Travis from the very beginning. He’s also responsible for a lot of the Bay Area recruits that make their way to Missoula. Jay, while not having been on staff as long, has a very high basketball I.Q.
I’m sure Travis is sensitive to Chris’s and Jays lack of income that comes with being assistant coaches at the University of Montana. That’s not going to change any time soon or probably at all. Travis has annotated Chris as his successor and I’m sure Kent would agree. Regardless of how much Haslem were to offer Trav it would pale in comparison to what even a Mountain West school could offer. I think, although not positive, Sprinkle at USU was north of $800,000. Trav would be smart to wait until after the Final 4 to consider any offers. No doubt there will be some opportunities to pick and choose.
Then there’s the question of would Chris and Jay go with him? If they could triple their income they’d be foolish to not go too.
Let’s face the facts, we’ve been fortunate to have the coaching tree we’ve had. I think it’s fair to say Travis is now part of that tree. He’s not getting any younger and his options will begin to diminish in the next couple of years. If he stays, and produces another year like this year I think we can color him gone. Sad to say.
