LadyGriz Lady Griz Coaching Hot Board

Totally agree...that's an "out-a-here"!
I agree. He should be gone. But if he didn't have any of that behavior as an assistant I don't know how anyone who was doing the hiring could have predicted it. The pressure of being an asst coach is much different than being a head coach. Holsinger obviously didn't handle that pressure well. So far it appears Harris has handled it well. His players are locked in and he has kept them together and positive through this all. He deserves serious consideration in my opinion.

Having been a coach for much of my career, I can tell you that being a head coach requires a special type of personality and most of the time it best fits with the classic Type A, ego driven type person to simply survive it. Football is absolutely replete with assholes and sociopaths.

I think you have to be able to be nearly oblivious of your impact on others and just as importantly not give a rats ass about what others think about you. I think that is the hardest element to gauge of any prospective hire who hasn't had the position before. Shannon had ALL of the necessary experiential elements but it was the temperament that got her and Holsinger.

I think you can be successful as a high level coach and have the type of humanity/awareness and not be a fascist, it just really hard unless you have supreme interpersonal and management skills, and being a supreme delegator. From personal experience, if you aren't a type A person classically you won't survive as a HC simply because those types can impose simpler systems of control simply by fiat. I was way too reserved, wanted to do too much, and I wasn't comfortable in an authority position and it burned me out out as a basketball coach. The anxiety and stress is a killer. I realized early on that I was and am a vastly better assistant than a HC. To be successful at the highest level, is a special, special breed of people.

I have heard enough recently to know that one of the expectations of any person interested in the position should have some tangible experience in knowing how to run a competitive D1 athletic program and can handle the work load. You aren't going to get many coaches that will apply that will have it in spades but they absolutely have to find someone who has the temperament to run the program. From what I have heard is that Harris is that type of guy and have heard similar things about MacIntyre even though she hasn't been a HC before.

Anyone unsure about Harris as the HC needs to watch the post game press conference. Dani and MJ provide an honest assessment of Nate and staff as leaders of the program. Promote him now and let him get started on building the roster for next year. My two cents.

Couldn't agree more. Give him the job and let him continue to recruit to Montana. Up with Montana!

I’m gonna be honest, I’m really conflicted about what we should do. I tip my cap to Harris and the entire staff for a hell of a run at the tourney but we can’t deny the results from the regular season. NC State men are the perfect example of this. Finished the regular season last year 17-14, they were ready to push their coach out the door and then they get hot, win the ACC tourney and go to the final four. Then this year they come back down to earth, finish well below .500 and he’s fired.

These things happen all the time. Often times the tourney is fools gold. We had nothing to lose, we played inspired, and it allowed us to almost get to the top. If they do decide to give Harris the job, I’d only give him a 2 year contract. I don’t think he’s earned 4 years and I’d make him prove it. Guess we’ll see what happens.

Does anyone have a link to that post game presser?

Nate is a great guy! I can' t speak for everyone in Hoop Club, but those I know really support him to be the next head coach. He recruits well and has some great commitments from the mid-West, who have so far held to their commitments. The present Lady Griz seem to love him and obviously play hard for him. Thru the past last season after the big disruption, they have obviously showed marked improvement, most notably in the tourney.

If Nate is not hired, we risk losing players and recruits.

We know what we get from Nate.

We might get a great coach from a national search, We might get a great coach like they got at Sac State, who lasted one year. then left Sac State in a mess. We might get a coach that will work hard to get advancement. We might get a coach with some underlining anger issues like Holzinger.

The Cats were far and away the best team in the Conference. Nate Harris took his Lady Griz team to one point from beating them two times, I hoped that the outcome was more positive for the Lady Griz, but They played hard, maybe beyond expectations.

I am Lobbying hard for Nate Garris to be named next Head Coach of the Lady Griz

Nate Harris should be the next head coach of our Lady GRIZ Period !!!

Maroon-silver is more eloquent than me--I agree with him 100 %.

It does not take much more than this: the clear and articulate post-game message from MJ Bruno regarding the impact of Nate Harris and the entire interim coaching staff on the stunning turn-around of this Montana WBB team over the past few weeks... Much less the emotive intensity of MJ's delivery as an exclamation mark (which to me speaks volumes beyond her words). There's a lot more evidence though. I just wrote & mailed a card to KH advocating the immediate extrension/hiring of this coaching team. Go GrizWBB.

This happens more than people remember where a interim coach gets hot or on a run and gets the job and two years later it's not good at all but everyone remembers the fun little run

Nate may be the guy for the job but I hope a full national search is done and if someone more qualified wants the job we take a serious look at that person and not become biased based on a run the lady Griz had, a run that was amazing yes and so fun to watch but the three game run can not be based on he future of the program

Also was Nate that good of a coach or did Mack finally get healthy and show she is the best overall player on the conference leading to the lady's finally having a shot to win some games

Rodney Terry at Texas is another good example. As interim in 23, he took them to the elite eight and now the last 2 years have been highly mediocre. This decision needs to be considered carefully.
