MBBALL Sac Game Thread

Weird game. Sac had 18 more shot attempts than the Griz. Griz outrebounded Sac by 7. 14 turnovers didn't help. Griz won it at the free throw line. A really sloppy 50% shooting. I think they PSU on their minds. A win is a win. 10 in a row. Gonna need tighter defense and crisper passing against PSU. Go Griz!

It seems Griz always struggle a bit in that YMCA gym. I think Griz will be more focused Saturday.

Very weird game.

I made this mention elsewhere but its rare for games in Sacramento to be anything else than what that game was last night. Uneven, choppy, disjointed, off-kilter. Sacramento State does that to teams with their defensively philosophy and a desire to continually work the ball on offense. They are going to make you grind.

In the first half, Montana found space and fluidity on offense once they got going. The second half was whistle after whistle on the offensive end and there was absolutely no continuity on that end at any point. Sort of reminded me of the Cat-Griz game on Saturday. Didn't help that Johnson wasn't on the floor in much in the second half with his injury, and Sawyer spent a lot of time on the bench with foul trouble as well.

Gonna be a slog in Portland on Saturday. That gym is just as a weird place to play, and PSU kept up their trend of manhandling every BSC conference team at home by flogging MSU. PSU plays like Gonzaga at home, and that game is going to be a real test.

Just another note. 10 games in a row in conference play is really tough to do. I know the Big Sky isn't the strongest conference, but in the WCC Saint Mary's went LMU last night as a 13.5 point favorite, and beat them by three. The Griz were favored by 8.5 and won by 4. The level of competition is different, but the feat of 10 in a row is a testament to Travis' coaching job this year. This is a very good team, and personally, one of my favorite Griz teams to ever watch. Definitly the most unselfish. It's nice to see team basketball in the BSC-not all the isolation, and one scorer on the team carrying the load. This team is in a great place to win the BSC, if the continue to play this type of ball.

I see Portland State had Minott and Curtiss both back from injury last night. That gives them a lot of additional size down low. Minott was monster down low pulling down 17 rebounds last night and also had 12 points. Curtiss who's 6'11 had 9 points and 3 rebounds. One interesting thing to watch for tomorrow is PSU's star big man Terri Miller broke his nose in the first half last night. Looks like he still played 20 minutes and scored 12 points, but how much of that came before he broke his nose? I'm sure he'll play tomorrow with a mask on which could in theory make him less aggressive and less effective? All I know is we're gonna have a tall task on our hands tomorrow for the title. We gotta shoot the ball much better than we did last night.

Totally agree with all you said, with a slight change: The Griz actually shot very well on FGs (50%) and fouls shots (83.3%), but they totally sucked on treys (20%). With the Vikes' size and strength inside, the Griz will really need to do better on 3s.

I think part of it was Moore and Johnson just didn't take a lot of shots last night as they were likely hurting a bit. Johnson especially as Decuire really limited his minutes in the second half. Moore just for the life of him could not hit a shot and I tend to think his wrist and it being taped up hurt his shot last night. I'm hopeful that with a little ice and rest, Moore's wrist and Johnson's ankle will both be back to 100% tomorrow and their hot shooting will hopefully return.

I lived in Utah many years ago, 25 to be exact. It’s interesting to note the paths taken by the Utes and the BYU Cougars. It used to be Utah would kick the Cougars butts in bb and fb pretty regularly. Up here in Montana the tide has turned as well. While the Griz ruled the perch for many years but now the shoe seems to be on the other foot. But I have hope.
??? Define “shoe on the other foot”? I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means…What’s Travis’s record against the ‘Scats?

That’s been a problem in years past but that really hasn’t been a problem this year. They’ve been pretty good at stepping on teams throats this year.

Idaho: 13 point lead, win by 2
NAU: 17 point lead, win by 5
UNC: Blown out at home
Weber: 7 point lead, give it all up, win by 4
ISU: Blown off the court 2nd time in 3 games
Idaho: 15 point lead, win by 5
MSU: 16 point lead, cut to 5, win by 7
PSU: Hey, a throat stomper!
SAC: Another throat stomper!
UNC: 19 point lead, cut to 5, win by 8
NAU: 10 point lead, cut to 2, win by 3
ISU: 15 point lead, cut to 2, win by 13
Weber: No data, Griz win by 7 after trailing at halftime
MSU: 13 point lead, cut to 3, win in double OT
SAC: 22 point lead, cut to 4, win by 6

Not a lot of curb stomping going on, IMHO…I see a lot of single digit wins and them letting just about every team back into the game once they have them down big.
