Montana / Montana State 2025 Football Schedule

A couple takeaways if you care to comment.

#1 Montana does not have a bye week during the season unless you count the first week as one. It appears that who ever did the schedule wanted to make sure there was as much money as possible to be made playing home games. #2 Montana travels to Sac state which should be an interesting game with all their portal transfers.

#1 Montana State travels to Oregon for an opening FBS game which will bring them a payday and national attention.#2 they get to play a quality opponent again in Mercyhurst.

Haslam mentioned on the gfp that they asked Bobby if he would take a week 1 bye if it meant having 8 games and said he welcomed it with open arms. If Bobby was good with it then I don't have a problem, and I think he'll have a plan put together to manage the load of 12 straight games. And yes, Sac State will be a really interesting game with all the high level transfers both teams brought in. It'll probably be one of the ESPN2 games this year.

I think its interesting that the bye week is week 1. Not sure I ever saw that before. Over the years always heard the coach say how great the bye week was in the middle of the season for player rest and regroup to move forward. The Griz play Sacred Heart during a good bye week time. Maybe they figure that is as good as a bye plus another home game.

If only the AD would go to a publicly posted broadcast and talk specifically about this scheduling decision, maybe then we would have some insight into the thought process of the Head Coach and the AD here.....
There is not much he would need to explain. As a AD it's all about the $ he brings in for the University. Pretty clear to some who don't need to listen to a podcast to figure it out. But others who need an explanation maybe that helps them.

As for the cats, that's definitely a tough 2 game stretch to open the season. Especially with a bunch of new coaches and players. I don't expect Oregon to be asleep at the wheel like they were against Idaho last year. The Vandy's struck the fear of god into them last year that I don't think they'll make that same mistake again. The SDSU game will be really interesting as both teams will have a lot of new faces. Chase Mason is a good QB but I'm not sure what he'll have for weapons around him and it's hard to win in Bozeman. Probably a 50-50 game. Cats also have road trips to NAU and the Griz. Makes for a tough road schedule.

I almost feel sorry for The Shi__ty Kitties having to travel to Eugene to play The Ducks in Autzen Stadium, especially after The Ducks game last year vs. Idaho and their playoff loss to The Buckeyes that ended the # 1 seed's season. Going into Autzen with their young, inexperienced players and staff, basically a JV team, the Sh___y Kitties are in for a green and yellow beat down !!!

Why would not having a bye week have anything to do with maximizing revenue? Not saying that couldn't occur, but it's not clear to me.

Doesn't having a week 1 bye week shorten the season by a week? There's some benefit to that, but not as much as a bye week during season.

Central Washington first game. Then ND and Indiana St. Those probably had to be then, and were previously scheduled, I assume. Sacred Heart Oct. 18. Probably only date open for them. Don't know when scheduled. That's a new game for Griz and fans. I suppose SH could have not been scheduled at all, Oct. 18 been a bye week, and some other game in week 1.

I don't see any support for saying AD was maximizing money. Ya, 8 games maximizes money, I suppose, but what would you do different? We aren't going to play CWU on the road. Is SH a one-off, or home and home? If home and home, then we have to play them at home one of those years. If a one-off game, why would we play them on the road when we could play them at home?

SH was 5-6 last year. Hasn't had a winning season since about 2021, 8-4. Last season, beat Mercyhurt 31-4, beat Georgetown (5-6), and was crushed by DE. Mercyhurst was weak. Crushed by Cats. Clobbered by SH, but 20 points less margin by SH.

I can't wait for that game.

We seem to always come off them flat at the start of the next game, too. This will give us another win toward playoff seeding, as well.
I say it part tongue in cheek but there’s truth in it too. Teams can get on a roll and a break can throw out their rhythm. Most stats show a 50-52% winning percentage by a team after a break. How many times have we seen the lower seeded team win cus they had to scrap their way to get in while the bye teams been on a break.

Does anyone have any other takes on the schedule for 2025 ? I was looking thru the schedule and found what I stated interesting. I don't know if Sac state can bail if they want to and not play league this year. It appears they are headed that way at some point. I think I read somewhere they were looking at 2026.

Definitely manageable schedule for the Griz. In a perfect world, the SH game the starters play a half and rest the second half. Some that need to rest and have a week off, likely do, so it's a de facto bye week. Worst case, it's more like the Butler game from a few years ago.
