MBBALL Monday Night Big Sky Games

Griz til I die

We got two games tonight in the Big Sky including one that could have big implications on the Big Sky title race:

Northern Colorado @ Idaho State
Northern Arizona @ Weber State

This is a tricky game for UNC ahead of the Griz game on Thursday. ISU has been very good at home this year and is in the fight for the number 3 seed right now. I suspect it's gonna be a close game. Wouldn't mind if it went to a few OT's lol. A UNC loss tonight would mean Thursday Night's game will be for sole possession of first place. A lot riding on this game tonight.

As for the other game, Weber is still looking for their first D1 home win of the year. I can't believe how bad they got beat at home to Eastern on Saturday. This has been a year to forget for the Wildcats. NAU on the other hand got embarrassed by UNC on Saturday after they only shot 30% from the field and a measly 12% from three. They can't afford a slip up tonight with the surging Montana schools coming to town.

Should be two interesting games tonight. I'll be keeping a close eye on the one in Poky tonight.

Also in case you're wondering, here are the updated NET rankings for this week and the differential from last Monday:

1. UNC 136 (+3)
2. ISU 186 (+18)
3. UM 191 (+21)
4. msu 192 (-1)
5. PSU 209 (-16)
6. NAU 243 (-3)
7. Idaho 248 (-4)
8. EWU 250 (+12)
9. Weber 304 (-43)
10. Sac 346 (-9)

Conventional wisdom says that we are rooting for ISU tonight, but if UNC wins, there is a good chance they will be ranked in the top 135 and would be a Q2 opponent for the Griz on Thursday. Both outcomes are a net positive for the Griz.
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135

As long as they don't get blown out tonight, I don't think they'll fall all that much. They may drop a spot or 2 but I could see a scenario where they stay put where they're at. I see your point about hoping they win tonight and move up so we have a shot at a Q2 win on Thursday. That would be nice, especially after CSUN fell to Q3 and that's not a Q2 win for us anymore.

I’m still rooting for ISU tonight, just was pointing out that a UNC win could also be beneficial. 👍

Tricky game? UNC was lucky to beat ISU at home in OT when Bengals lead for lion’s share of the game. No one around here will be surprised when ISU wins tonight. Dylan Darling is the best player in the Big Sky. ISU starting 5 is very stout. When they get decent production off bench and hit normal numbers shooting, they’re tough to beat.

Ya that's why I said it's a tricky game for UNC

I'll be surprised. But I'll still be rooting for it.

That was a pretty shitty second half from ISU. That reminded me a lot of our game against them where we were up 5 at the half, extended the lead early in the second, and then completely unraveled. UNC was able to do whatever they wanted offensively, and every time it felt like ISU was gonna make it a one score game, they’d miss key free throws to keep it at 2 scores.

I gotta be honest, UNC is a matchup nightmare for us. They play the exact type of ball that we struggle with. I have a hard time seeing us beating them on Thursday. As well as we’ve played the last couple weeks, this is a tall order and UNC always gets up for these games against us. Idk, it might not be pretty on Thursday.

There always seems to be that 1 team that is a nightmare matchup. Somehow other teams can pull one off, but the Griz just don't. Will be interesting to watch Thursday.
