LadyGriz Holsinger on Leave

Firing Shannon was a mistake, a $

Firing Shannon was a big mistake, a $350,000 mistake as Bill Speltz notes, and I am far from alone in that conclusion, 24. If you don't agree, okay, we can agree to disagree.

And at this point, another big Haslam mistake was his decision to hire Holsinger, so when it comes to The Lady GRIZ, he's now 0-2.
Hiring Shannon was the mistake. Firing her wasn't.

decision to eliminate court side seating for students at BB games, for which Haslam deserves no blame.
Agreed. The remodel $ubstancially downsized the seating capacity of the Field House by about 1500 to 2000 seats..That along with Administration$ short sighted deci$ion to take the life blood out of the place by taking the students off the floor on the east side essentially nuetured the place of the once young and vibrant atmosphere..
College basketball venues during a game should not look like a retiree info meeting for social security benefits..

Most of the lost 1500 to 2000 seats were between the baskets which are the highest revenue generating seats. Having students in the lower east side would have been quite a bit of lost revenue. Especially since there has been a decline in student attendance even before the remodel.

The only right way to do the remodel would be to rotate the floor. Didn't get enough money to do it that way, and in my opinion, they shouldn't have done the remodel until they could get the money to rotate the floor.

I think the point you advance is the crux of the problem. Eliminate seating and marginalize the students by taking away their place at courtside. It destroyed the vibe and, as a natural progression, decimated attendance. There is no revenue from an unsold, empty seat.

Yep, Holsinger's hut in The South Hills is up for sale for a mil plus--maybe Shannon can sell it for him ?

Speaking of Shannon, that was a great move by Haslam almost seven years ago firing the LG's greatest player in history, Rob's long-time right hand, and hiring Holsinger--how did that work out, Kent ?
95 pictures on zillow! Holy wow that's a big house.

Agree with much of what you said, except for the unsold, empty seat. It really became the "Sold empty Seat" after the remodel which left a lot of empty seats but no lost revenue.

So did the player take a leave of absence because she was close to Holsinger or was it because of what he did? Whatever that happens to be.

I did not say that the courtside seats were or are unsold. I suspect ticket sales, especially season tickets, remain strong for the former student section.

But the energy left the building when the courtside student section was eliminated and there are now plenty of unsold, empty seats in the arena that previously were often filled. Students should be the focus of university administrators, not a group marginalized in pursuit of ticket revenue.

I think it’s fair to say that the then-AD totally fucked up.

The idea of hiring Shannon is a pipe dream at best, players would revolt as they did when she was fired. She was a great player and a well below average coach.

I respect what you say, 57, but many other season ticket holders disagree with you--Shannon's supporters formed a Facebook group, funny there wasn't one formed supporting Haslam, wonder why?

Shannon had a winning record her last season and I and many others believe was just hitting her stride as a head coach, she was Robin Selvig's handpicked successor after being Rob's right hand for 30 years, and after Mike Petrino's testimony supported Shannon's that yes, she yelled at her players and referees but no, she was not physically or verbally abusive, low and behold, UM had to cough up $350,000 to make Haslam's blunder go away or face losing a lot more money in a protracted lawsuit(s), and yes I am aware that one of them was dismissed.

And then Haslam goes from one blunder to another, passes over Mike and hires Holsinger !!!

Probably won't happen but I for one hope that Shannon applies for her old job and Haslam is shown the door !!!

I have it from a good source that Rob did not endorse the hiring of Shannon.
Is that why Trish Dune left the Lady Griz coaching staff?

I guess former Lady GRIZ and All Big Sky Guard Sophie Stiles that praised Shannon as kind and caring and a good coach, and diplomatically referred to the LG whining about Shannon as " girls that didn't fit into
the system" knows less than you do , 66 ?

And the only two-time All American in the history of Carroll College Jamie Pickens who played for Shannon, transferred to Carroll after Shannon's dismissal by Big Kent--BK--and and gave a sworn affidavit stating that Shannon was a good coach and she enjoyed playing for her also is out to lunch ?

And Mike Petrino, Shannon's right hand assistant testifying that Shannon was a good, passionate coach that didn't mistreat her players also knows less than you ?

But I did find out that Robin Selvig absolutely couldn't stand Shannon, HHB, from a " source."Rob absolutely detested Shannon both as a player, and then he hated her so much that he hired her as his assistant coach for 24 years --that's pure hostility !!! But my " source" wasn't done and enlightened me that JFK was killed by The CIA and Freemasons, not loner Lee Harvey Oswald, the moon landing was faked on a Hollywood movie set, Israel--not Saudi Arabia--was responsible for 9/11, and Elvis is still alive but at the age of 92 is now residing in a nursing home in his native Tupelo, Mississippi, and the RN's and CNA's have to chase The King in his electric blue suede wheel chair out of female resident 's rooms-- I guess once a Hound Dog alwaysa Hound Dog !!!

It is funny that BK folded like a cheap suit once the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear Shannon's civil lawsuit and quickly put up $350,000 of UM's money 💰. Do ya think he was worried about what Rob, Sophie, Jamie, Mike and others were going to tell this appellate panel ?

No, what I think happened is the university's insurance company settled for 350k rather than pay for continued litigation.

Also - hence why the U and all apparently involved parties are keeping their mouths shut, to the dismay of the local reporters who apparently care more about this, than tax payer money being paid to the coaches of the neighbors keeping a raise already in progress even though they were popped with a DUI and other nonsense.

Smacked really largely of whining about Robin being gone - which....not the university's choice lol.

Yeah, Mikey, that explains it or does it--I guess that same insurance company could have settled the case in district court but didn't...hmmm ? Do you also have a source ?

Yes, BK is one, smooth operator, it's funny Ohio State, Alabama, or Oregon haven't snatched him right out of Missoula ... or at least maybe even called him ... wonder why ?

Personally, Mikey both could be true, and if Shannon prevailed in the 9th Circuit and she had a good chance of doing so, both BK, UM and/or the insurance company, assuming one was involved, were gonna pay a whole lot more than $350,000 !!!

I have no idea who BK might be. But the Ninth Circuit did not agree to hear the appeal - a losing party can appeal as a matter of right and SS lost on summary judgment as a matter of law. The witnesses would not be able to “tell” the Ninth Circuit anything because the Ninth Circuit will not consider new evidence on appeal. The attorneys for SS could advance written arguments based upon the evidence already in the record at the trial court and, at best, would have 20 minutes of oral argument. SS had a steep hill to climb, but it is certainly possible that the Ninth Circuit could have reversed.

The $350K also needs to be addressed in context. UM prevailed at the trial court level, but needed to pay attorney fees and costs for the appeal and would need to pay even more if the Ninth Circuit reversed and remanded to the trial court for further proceedings. So UM likely engaged in a cost-benefit analysis and settled to eliminate risk. From the perspective of SS, I doubt she was paying her lawyers on an hourly basis. Most likely, she retained counsel on a contingency and she was responsible for costs. I would be shocked if she personally netted $200K from the settlement and it could have been much less. It was probably just time for her to eliminate risk, cut losses, and move on.

I seriously doubt SS was willing to settle for $350K prior to losing on summary judgment and her leverage on appeal diminished significantly.
