LadyGriz Holsinger on Leave

Selvig,,,Shannon,,,,Holsinger,,,, they are in the rear view mirror. I believe Harris and Woolley are laser focused on salvaging this season and doing something special in March. I think we all agree that, the team is playing much improved basketball under their leadership. I want the best for them and the young ladies. Here is hoping they Harris/Woolley right the ship. And also,,,, Here is hoping we can all forget about Holsinger and move on.

I largely agree with young, runr, but what if Shannon applies for the job ? While she probably won't, if I were her, I would !!!

While I am very biased since Shannon is from Billings and I will admit she's not perfect and doesn't walk on water, and neither did/does the great Robin Selvig, but hey, if she were good enough for Rob and to be his right hand for about 30 years, she's good enough for me. I think she was just finding her stride as LG HC when Haslam blundered into firing her, and I am far from alone in those sentiments !!!

I think someone else needs to go in addition to Holsinger, our AD that fired Shannon, hired and then fired Bob Stitt, lost our track coach, Shannon's husband for obvious reasons, and was the captain of our ship while our softball and volleyball programs floundered due in large part to coaches he also hired. I do give him credit for hiring Travis and rehiring Bobby Hauck, but that was a SMA ( save my a$$) move after the Stitt debacle.

I think it's fair to say Kent Haslam's record as AD is mixed at best, and that's being generous !!! Jim O'Day was a much better AD !!!

Haslam really screwed up with Shannon. But there were the same type of rumors and second hand info as we are getting with Holsinger which as Speltz said in his article may be true. Like a bunch of players coming into Haslam's office to say they will quit if he rehires Shannon.

Anyway, I do believe we will not hear a thing because Haslam is going to treat the past 3+ years like it was a dream and didn't exist. Kind of like the way the tv show Dallas did when Victoria Principal left the show and decided to come back 2 season after. Of course, if you didn't watch that show you wouldn't get the reference.

Also, The current soccer coach is pretty good, but what about the previous soccer coach. Seem to remember he was not very good. Haslam Hire him?

Being a season ticket holder with the Lady Griz for decades, I for one agree "with a bunch of players" If She was hired back, I would give up our season tickets! could not stand to watch her coaching style that she called basketball. For those of us that pay for seats to watch the Lady Griz, it was a great decision, to fire the coach that was taking the Lady Griz to the cellar, just because you're a good player does not make you a good coach, Losing talented players because of poor coaching is frustrating, especially when you know they could’ve made a huge impact.
One of the top scorer in the Big Sky in 2021 transferred to Idaho, never played much here, WHY coaching?

And as far as MSU coaching goes, two seasons ago returning players went to different schools because of the turmoil that was on that team.

The last couple of seasons definitely feel like a step in the right direction, Harris and Woolley bring a lot of promise. That Brawl game was electric—easily one of three or four great games in recent memory. If they keep building on this momentum, the Lady Griz could be a real force in the Big Sky again.

Here’s to an exciting rest of the season—Go Lady Griz! 🏀

As a Lady Griz season ticket holder since the mid-1980's, I wholeheartedly agree!

I respect what you say, 57, but many other season ticket holders disagree with you--Shannon's supporters formed a Facebook group, funny there wasn't one formed supporting Haslam, wonder why?

Shannon had a winning record her last season and I and many others believe was just hitting her stride as a head coach, she was Robin Selvig's handpicked successor after being Rob's right hand for 30 years, and after Mike Petrino's testimony supported Shannon's that yes, she yelled at her players and referees but no, she was not physically or verbally abusive, low and behold, UM had to cough up $350,000 to make Haslam's blunder go away or face losing a lot more money in a protracted lawsuit(s), and yes I am aware that one of them was dismissed.

And then Haslam goes from one blunder to another, passes over Mike and hires Holsinger !!!

Probably won't happen but I for one hope that Shannon applies for her old job and Haslam is shown the door !!!

Perhaps because that's what 8th grade girls do, as opposed to grown adults?

Oh, and if Kent leaves Montana it will be because a P4 school is throwing oodles of money at him.

Firing Shannon was a mistake, a $

Firing Shannon was a big mistake, a $350,000 mistake as Bill Speltz notes, and I am far from alone in that conclusion, 24. If you don't agree, okay, we can agree to disagree.

And at this point, another big Haslam mistake was his decision to hire Holsinger, so when it comes to The Lady GRIZ, he's now 0-2.
Terminating S,S. was not a mistake. Not sure about the hiring decision and we should wait until UM announces the result of the current investigation. So he is 1-0 with one situation unresolved.

O-2, and I don't think lawyers, CPA's, doctors, nurses, teachers, small business owners, and realtors qualify as 8th grade school girls, Everett, but since there were over a thousand of Shannon's friends, you're probably right, they got some of their daughters and sons involved.

P-4 school--I don't know, goat creek, after Haslam's latest blunder ( Bob Stitt, Holsinger, volleyball, softball) + Shannon, I was thinking maybe, maybe AD @ Dawson CC in Glendive or probably better Custer County High School in Miles City would be more appropriate for Haslam's talents, or rather lack thereof !!!

I don’t disagree, with the benefit of hindsight, some of the hires did not work out.

Until the Holsinger situation is resolved and reliable information comes out, I won’t pass judgment on his hire, but I realize that it doesn’t sound good based on anecdotal reports derived from multiple layers of hearsay regarding this season. The AD does a lot more than just hire coaches.

The biggest AD blunder in my adult life was probably the decision to eliminate court side seating for students at BB games, for which Haslam deserves no blame.

No renewal and raise?
This ain't MSdUi football. Cruzado 'retired' to another job. Maybe, just maybe, Bodnar and Haslam huddled with legal counsel and decided to just let Holsinger wither on the vine, stay out of the way, and let his contract expire. His position dies a natural death. Hush, hush!

"The biggest AD blunder in my adult life was probably the decision to eliminate court side seating for students at BB games, for which Haslam deserves no blame." 100% agree

Bringing Shannon back is an absolutely delusional take that attempts to rewrite history. She failed as a coach, many of her players hated her, and just simply was not up to the job, which anyone that watched her teams could plainly see. Haslam’s failure was in the way he totally bungled the process of her firing, not the act itself, which was 100% deserved.

Say what you want about Holsinger’s coaching skills, but it’s obvious the talent he recruited was a step or 2 above Shannon’s.

It’s basically not even worth mentioning bringing her back because it would never happen in a million years.

I’ve known Shannon well since I was literally a baby as our families were extremely close. She would pick me up for lunch from elementary school during her heyday and it legit made me feel like I was with a celebrity. I went to almost every game and reveled in her success. There was no one rooting harder for Shannon’s success as a coach. She just simply was not up to the job then or now.

Yep, Holsinger's hut in The South Hills is up for sale for a mil plus--maybe Shannon can sell it for him ?

Speaking of Shannon, that was a great move by Haslam almost seven years ago firing the LG's greatest player in history, Rob's long-time right hand, and hiring Holsinger--how did that work out, Kent ?
He got 50% correct.
