2025 gogriz Roster Notable Missing Players

Why not opt in? It caps the roster at 105.

Well Kent had a great explanation. It had as much to do with other sports as it did football, as well as sitting back and letting others work through the pitfalls first. You can opt in or out on a yearly basis it sounds like. Time will tell if this was the more prudent strategy.

Saw something the other day that said Big Sky presidents will vote in February whether to opt in as a conference or not. Everyone may be forced into it

Is that how it works? Are you referring to the conference voting on scholarship limits? Everything I have seen says that opting in to the settlement is up to the school, and the conference could choose to impose scholarship limits.

Ok but do the cons of losing five or six extra roster spots really out weigh all the pros mentioned in the article?
The article literally used the phrase the “rich get richer” by opting into the settlement.

It sounds like the conference wants to act as a single entity when it comes to the option. Each school will option individually, but are encouraged to all chose the same.

So ultimately the schools can still do what they want, right? I'm interested if any other conferences are doing similar.

Who tf would want to move to Boston
Reid Harris from Great Falls High, who is excelling at Boston College! Never took a sniff at UM or MSU. ELITE talent as a receiver, been “Mossed” twice. Would have been a safety or corner in Montana, and in the portal sooner than later.

Reid is a huge msu fan and in fact almost went there but chose Boston College

They could, but I think they will stick together. But I have heard that MSU would like to opt-in, which is not how UM is leaning. Curious to see the outcome.
I would be surprised if MSU opts in. Football is not the only sport that will have roster limits. They would have to cut some of their track and field athletes to stay under the roster limits there. If we initially opt in we will have to cut athletes from both Soccer and Softball. Our track would not be as affected as much as we have fewer athletes on our teams. My understanding is that the main benefit is collective money coming in house of the athletic departments for more transparency. But bear in mind, the House settlement has not yet been signed off by the presiding judge. I am sure that there are more nuanced specifics of the settlement that people smarter than me know about.
