Jay Kohn

I just wish the Bobcat TV crew would have let people know Tommy is from Butte.
I need to know whether the yellow line on TV is official and whether the evidence can be disputable to overturn a call on replay. I mean, can it be disputable? Nobody ever says. That’s what I’m looking for in a broadcaster.

He was horrible, should have been replaced by mid-season when he still didn't know the players numbers or couldn't even correctly identify the players even when the names on back of the jerseys were clearly visible.
I do like Marty and what he brings to telecast.

I like Jay--he was our news anchor at KTVQ in Billings for over 20 years, and before that was the MTN Capital Bureau Chief in Helena and ran KXLF-TV in Butte with his friend, legendary Butte sports historian, radio high school play- by- play man, and founder of The Butte Sports Hall of Fame the late Pat Kearney. Since Jay is a proud alum of The J School @ UM and Pat was a big Bobcat alum and wrote " The Divide War," about the history of The Brawl, I bet Jay and Pat had some good discussions about the game !!! Jay was/is an excellent anchor and reporter and won numerous journalism awards, including Montana Broadcaster of The Year. In Oct. of 2021, Jay and his wife lost their daughter Melanie Connole, also a proud UM J school alum and ironically her dad's boss as newscast director @ Q-2, to cancer. Jay thought Mel was pulling some strings for him in heaven for him to get the gig broadcasting football games for his beloved GRIZ.

I thought Jay was improving, loved his playing the straight man for Marty, and I will miss him !!!

Yeah, he's a good guy, but knows very little football. We need to do better.

Won't miss Jay. He was mediocre at best and, with his long background in broadcast media, should have performed better than he did. Probably a nice guy but wrongly typecasted as a sports announcer. And we can do better than Marty. All he does is just yell and overstates the obvious. He is just too overzealous in his delivery, and it gets very annoying as the game goes on. Looking forward to a different crew next year...

If we learned anything from the Biden situation it is that reading from a teleprompter does not invoke/expose memory issues the way a live press conference or calling a live football game will. I know from experience with family members that his struggles are likely indicators of the onset of memory issues. It wouldn't surprise me if the current situation is the culmination of concerns of the people and family on both sides of the gig. I, too, thought he was an excellent anchor in Billings, and as sorry as it is to see him go, I agree it was for the best.

Jay had his heart in the right place but in my opinion he was just too hyped up. He wanted to get the call out before he had the particulars nailed down. If he could just take a beat he could have avoided a lot of his mistakes.
