I think you're being a bit loosey-goosey here. While it is a hallmark of Griz Nation to discriminate based on place of origin, that isn't enough. My criteria?
Born in Montana.
I honestly think it's great. Get away from this "Montana-born defensive preseason MVP" crap and go back to giving it to a guy that will wear it and shape it over multiple seasons. It's a bit concerning that there isn't an obvious choice here...
If we were ever going to switch it to offense the time was last season with Junior. I don't think there's really anyone deserving on that side of the ball this season.
what this dude said.Wish it would go back to the original tradition of handing it to an underclassman with 3 years of eligibility or so. Changing every year has watered down the tradition.
Grimsrud has done anything and everything asked of him since he’s been hereIt's a bit concerning that there isn't an obvious choice here...

Junior once committed to attend MSU. Immediate disqualification. It's a bit concerning that there isn't an obvious choice here...

And then maybe hits the portal along the way.I honestly think it's great. Get away from this "Montana-born defensive preseason MVP" crap and go back to giving it to a guy that will wear it and shape it over multiple seasons.
So what? And then maybe hits the portal along the way.
So much for your desire to "go back to giving it to a guy that will wear it and shape it over multiple seasons." Hard to realize in these days.So what?
I don't think "they might transfer" is a reason to refuse to give it to anyone. So much for your desire to "go back to giving it to a guy that will wear it and shape it over multiple seasons." Hard to realize in these days.
speaking of being "given a shot," the ceremonies should have been held at the eagles clubs around the state, but, alas, no shot was given to them. they looked good in the spring scrimmage against the lions clubs. to be fair, the eagles did have an awkward saluting motion (dropping the elbow, ugh) during the pledge of allegiance, but with proper development and coaching, they could have developed into a credible club. i wouldn't be surprised to see them leave their respective lodges for a better ceremony somewhere in the dakotas, where they will "tear it up" and be dominate.I think you're being a bit loosey-goosey here. One must also take an oath promising never to leave and pledge fealty to the Gods of the Treasure State, whereupon he will receive a Pledge Pin. The ceremonies are held the second Tuesday of each month at Elks Clubs around the state, coffee and donuts are served afterward, I guess sometimes it's a pancake breakfast, whateverwhatever, but the point is: Without the Pledge Pin, you are simply not worthy to drape thyself with the sacred Garment of the Hell's Gate. After being deemed unworthy, you will be evaluated under stricter scrutiny. Your aptitude matters not, for there are ample Pledgemen who would take your spot, if only given a shot.
The last word got me! Well done.speaking of being "given a shot," the ceremonies should have been held at the eagles clubs around the state, but, alas, no shot was given to them. they looked good in the spring scrimmage against the lions clubs. to be fair, the eagles did have an awkward saluting motion (dropping the elbow, ugh) during the pledge of allegiance, but with proper development and coaching, they could have developed into a credible club. i wouldn't be surprised to see them leave their respective lodges for a better ceremony somewhere in the dakotas, where they will "tear it up" and be dominate.
I don't want to open a huge can of worms here, but this is kind of confusing.
Robby Hauck was born in Missoula, lived a lot of his young life here, but moved away and did high school in California, and many people claimed he shouldn't be eligible because he didn't go to high school here.
Nuce went to high school here, but is also not eligible?
So you have to have been born in MT and never left at all until coming to the Griz in order to be eligible? What if the person's family moves abroad for a year or two? And if that's fine, how many years can you be away before you lose your Montana Native-ness?
I only bring this up because it just feels so unnecessary, to me. IMO, if someone feels like they're "from Montana" and has lived a sizeable amount of their life here, that's good
Why?Retire #37 and be done.
You’re definitely in the minority on that take. That’ll never happenRetire #37 and be done.
