Of this list, I think Nuce will be the biggest concern of other offenses and should get 37 for that. I think it would also be cool if Tommy Running Rabbit could eventually work his way into #37 some day if he plays in the defensive side. To have a Native American wearing the native Montanan number would be pretty cool I think. If not for Loren Utterback, Tuff Harris might’ve been wearing it back in his day.

Not convinced Nuce is returning yet. I sure hope he does but he loves to fish and hunt, and the call of the wild could be stronger than the Brawl of the wild

Nuce moved to Montana from Maine I believe Freshman year of high school he’s not eligible
I don't want to open a huge can of worms here, but this is kind of confusing.

Robby Hauck was born in Missoula, lived a lot of his young life here, but moved away and did high school in California, and many people claimed he shouldn't be eligible because he didn't go to high school here.

Nuce went to high school here, but is also not eligible?

So you have to have been born in MT and never left at all until coming to the Griz in order to be eligible? What if the person's family moves abroad for a year or two? And if that's fine, how many years can you be away before you lose your Montana Native-ness?

I only bring this up because it just feels so unnecessary, to me. IMO, if someone feels like they're "from Montana" and has lived a sizeable amount of their life here, that's good enough for me.

Robby wan't born in Montana. He was born in Seattle.

I see, I thought I read he was born here.

So just so I understand, which of the following hypothetical Griz players is eligible for the #37?

Player A was born and raised in Montana from birth, went to HS here.
Player B was born and raised in Montana, but moved away after sophomore year of HS.
Player C was born and raised in Montana, but didn't go to HS here.
Player D was born in Montana, but moved away in elementary or middle school.
Player E was born in Montana, but moved away when he was a small child, living virtually none of his life here.
Player F was not born in Montana, but moved here when he was a small child, living virtually all of his life here.
Player G was not born in Montana, but moved here in elementary or middle school.
Player H was not born in Montana, but moved and went to HS here.
Player I was not born in Montana, but moved here for his senior year of HS.
Player J lived a sizable portion of their life in Montana, but was not born here, nor went to HS here.

I'm not trying to be snarky here, I'm actually curious how people feel about this. Is it player A and no one else? Is it a spectrum of acceptability, but if so, when does this sort of "Montanan of Theseus" stop being from Montana?

I guess my opinion is that if any of those players truly identified as Montanans, I don't think they should be excluded from wearing the jersey if they got picked.

Must have been born here during a full moon on a Sunday when the Mets had a double header. Oh, and must have never stepped outside of the Montana borders. Tie breaker goes to the AA high school graduate.

My criteria?

Born in Montana.
