FCS Championship Game Jan 6th kittens vs Fat boys

And in that case they actually would have at least had an offensive play with Tommy instead of watching the ball trickle down the field.
Yeah, but Trashcan Tommy doesn't have anywhere NEAR the arm to do anything from 85 yards away. Sure, they could have tried a pitchy pitchy woo woo play, but c'mon. The punt block was the right call.

I agree with the block as the right call since you’re around midfield and need 3 to tie the game. However, you can’t run a punt block with 10 guys????? Most blocks are still run with less than that because there is a return man back usually with a safety man. Wouldn’t a good coach call to have both options?

Of course, under normal game circumstances. But the fatties are going to be in max protect there and tell their punter to get it out quick. Your only legit chance to get to the punter is to send 11 on 10.

This tactic isn't all that unusual. You say it fairly regularly at the end of games.

Which is a fair point. But given there is still guys in the backfield you can still overload the front line on one side or the other, usually on the kicking foot side. To me it just felt like everything else last night where it’s like the cats didn’t know what to do in many situations.

I see both sides of it. The block was likely their only chance, but sending 11 removed all doubt.

I can see rushing 11 vs setting up a return to eliminate the scenario in which the punter runs backwards for a safety while bleeding clock. If he doesn’t make it to the endzone it’s cat ball for a short FG. Don’t know if Big Game Brent factored that in or if he decided a block was the only option.

I can see your point, but I don't think sending the house with no returner could ever get home when all the punter has to do is quick kick it in bounds to win a NC.

To clarify: I'm not trying to say they should've set up a return, I'm just suggesting they probably wish they would've had one guy back to field it instead of watching Bizons surrounding the ball as another dream season ticked away. Or maybe they were banking on a bad snap? It's won them games before . . . 🤷‍♂️

Exactly. The calls are not mutually exclusive. They could have tried for the block AND return as most teams would have.
In fact, every team has done exactly that. The bubz are the first team to end in a walk off punt. Shows how dumb it was and such a bubcat thing. There’s a reason nobody pulls their goalie—it’s just plain stupid.
Instead, they literally called a play they never practiced before in the penultimate moment of the season. Can’t get dumber than that.
A fair catch leaves at least 4 seconds, possibly more. Maybe even enough for two plays, especially if there was a defensive penalty.
Yes, even a pichy-pichy-woo-woo would have been better than watching those 4 seconds tic off the clock. Would have loved to see Tommy run a pichy.
To me, the NPRPRPR is so much dumber than the FFGPTB. The former was never practiced and sealed their fate while the latter was specifically designed although totally inconsequential.

You guys can debate the last play forever, but it was a no win situation for the kitties. Regardless, the outcome would have been the same 99.9% of the time.

I agree it likely doesn’t change the outcome. I’d rather go out on the field fighting rather than watching a ball dribble down the field from the sideline if I’m the most storied player in Bubcat lore.

The media knows less about football than the hogs on The View.

It's obvious that nobody is close to the XDSUs and next year isn't going to be any different
Dude herder is the best FCS reporter and he even picked us. Drop the “media doesn't know shit” argument.

Prophetic. TM had 3 TD…needed 4. NDSU scores more than 29. You’re welcome.
Wait, you think the '96 Marshall team was only very good but not Great? I missed that original post. We were the only other team close to matching them all year in dominance and they absolutely kicked our asses all over the field to the tune of 46-6 until they finally let up and we scored a few times on the backups. That team was loaded top to bottom. The Defense was great. Kresser was great. That whole Marshall squad was one of the best FCS teams ever. It wasn't just the Moss show but he certainly was the exclamation mark on their team, no doubt.

Ummmm...goalies get pulled quite literally ALL THE TIME in multiple sports...

Perhaps I missed your point.

Uhhhhh….yea. bubz were the first team to lose on a walk off punt. First team to pull their returner. Have you ever seen that before? I haven’t. Probably a reason for never seeing it before.

While I agree with that, at least give him the opportunity. There's a better chance he houses one rather than they block it then somehow scoop it and score it afterwards. A good, well thought out return play would be way better. Hauck proved that against the Bison last year.
But the fatties don't give him a shot. They kick it OB and allow the bubs to try to score on one play from 75 yards out with a qb who can't throw it 25 yards.
