Jimmy Rogers to Wazzu

SDSU finds themselves in a very interesting spot now. Matt Zimmer is reporting that Rogers plans to take the entire coaching staff with him, and they could see upwards of 2 dozen portal entries. Which if true means SDSU has no internal options for the job. I saw one person on Twitter suggest that Stig come back, and that might not be a bad option in the short term if he’s willing to come out of retirement, but this is a huge blow for the Jacks.

The good news for SDSU is their athletic department as a whole is very strong, and there will lots of attractive suitors for the job. But you can’t help but feel if the program gets raided that that knocks SDSU out of the title picture in the short term.

It will hurt for sure but I’ll stop short of calling it a big setback simply because the FCS is so incredibly weak outside of 4-5 programs. I bet they don’t lose 5 games next year.

If Rogers plunders SDSU's entire staff and many of their players, they might slip back down to just being "good" instead of "elite", too, at least in the short term.

That’s tough. I could see them losing 4-5 games.

To who? Cats game was a toss up but assuming he takes a ton of good players I think the cats take that one. NDSU and USD will probably get them and maybe a toss up at UND. Those 3-4 losses wouldn’t hurt them too much as MSU, NDSU, and USD should be top 5 teams next year. I think Sac will be going through growing pains.

They lose those 4 games they’re playing away in the playoffs. That most certainly will “hurt them”.
 
I’m thinking we landed Braydon Bailey from Utah State. He’s following our entire coaching staff and even guys like Frank Gogola. Plus he’s Hawaiian and went to Golden West CC. Two pipelines of ours.

That probably means we missed on Fernandez, but that’s ok cause these guys are basically the same size. I still think we have a good chance at Claypool. If we get Bailey and Claypool, I’ll feel pretty good about the DL.

I find it crazy they wouldn’t announce his hiring yet let him coach the championship. Portal closes so more can’t leave and he would still have plenty of time to offer portal guys and take the best of MSU with him. He might have really screwed up not taking the offer. Life changing money and no guarantees a better gig comes along. This year likely too late for another and if for some reason he struggles without Tommy next year his stock plummets.
