Vigen to Washington State... is it a distraction during Championship week?

Knowing your head coach is already out the door for more money, what kind of distraction is it for the players in the next week in preparation for the National Championship? A big nothing burger? Some impact? Obviously, the cats get a portal extension for being in the Championship game so will be interesting to watch this unfold in the days after the game.

I definitely thought it had some effect when the Griz coaches were trying to leave for Wyoming in the early 2000's. This day and age are probably different.

Do the Cats continue their success of hiring from the outside or do you promote from within as fast as you can to try and keep players.

This is mute if Vigen stays at Bozeman after all.

It's never been a distraction for any of the NDSU coaches that announced they were leaving, but it was a huge distraction for JMU when Mike Houston announced he was leaving. It may have even been a distraction for Idaho this year. Every program is different.

If you knew your Head Coach was leaving, but wanted to stay and coach... would you as the Athletic Director/President let them stay and coach if they already had a deal in place to go somewhere else?

If you were going to hire within (the next head coach), would you just let that person take over and be the HC for the chipper and tell the current guy, thanks.... but we ride for the Brand?

Looks like it is not a done deal and Bobcat insider Thomas Stuber was posting unreliable/unconfirmed information which quickly spread amongst Bobcat fans.

When you have a great culture it's not a distraction it's a stepping stone onto continuous greatness. NDSU is an example.

It's a distraction for everyone else because there is no loyalty from ADs, coaches and players anymore. Vigen will get his NC and then move on to make WSU competitive. That's what good coaches do.

It doesn't take them a decade

i'd let him coach. hold him true to his claims of being focused on the championship. give him a chance to prove to the bobs and wazzu that he's about winning, first and foremost. if the bob's get skinned, it might cause washington state some buyer's remorse. that's ok with me...

There's no way Wazzu wouldn't let him finish it out with the cats. This isn't some meaningless bowl game. Guarantee you if he's announced soon that he will still coach in Frisco

WSU is losing on signing recruits, getting recruits from Portal, its players going to Portal, hiring coaches, and having enough coaches and players to play their bowl game.

on the flip side, one could postulate that vigen's actions are positively influencing potential transfers, etc...

He's not bailing on the cats in what could be the biggest game in program history. Zero percent chance that happens hoops. I don't care what the current condition of Wazzu is. No coach would ever do that to their current team.

Stuber is the idiot who said he prefers his coaches to get their first DUI out of the way because then they will be less likely to get another one and more likely to stick around. No joke.
And skyline pays that fool for his opinions.

This. There's no way it cannot be a significant distraction.

Will it matter or make a difference in the game? Who knows.
Looks like it's not happening anyway, but likely wouldn't have made a difference in the game either way. This is truly a player led team and is committed to a mission like no other team I remember, ever. The laser focus, team approach, commitment to excellence has been spectacular to watch.

Well we certainly can't say you ever miss an opportunity to gargle bobcat balls on this site whenever given the opportunity.

Kudos.

I remember when that jack wagon said that. I have never heard anything more idiotic from a cats fan, and that is saying everything

Cats are so good they don’t need coaches.
