UM Football Only BSC Team not Playing an FBS Opponent in 2025

I second that. I wonder if Good Ol' Grizzlies can or already has listed contributors on its webpage. Without giving out contribution amounts as that should remain tightly controlled for obvious reasons.
They have a few that they list publicly. They list Uptop, VRTX, Erck, Hotels, Dazzlers and some others at times. I don't know if that is a level that is paid for in particular to be noted as a "partner." I know that there are a few others involved because we see the athletes publicly doing commercials for them. Montana Roots is obviously getting involved. The are others that I know I am blanking on at the moment.

Props to Montana for not having to play an FBS to balance the books, but if I were a fan I'd want to see an FBS team on the schedule.

The UW win a few years back brought some notoriety to UM, and even beating a lower FBS team looks good for the program too. The best way for FCS teams to get any respect are to go out and beat FBS teams, or at least when playing a professional FBS team to give them a good scare even if it results in a loss.

That loss doesn't help with ranking or playoff seeding, though. I agree with you that beating them looks good, but would I rather beat an FBS team and have the 3rd/4th seed, vs not playing an FBS team and having the 1st/2nd seed? It is actually a well balanced question in some ways for the long term, but I'll take the higher seed at this point.

UM tries to schedule an FBS every 3 years. But it's problematic: It makes neither sense nor cents for UM to play at say, New Mexico, because mid majors simply cannot pay us what we make on a home game.

And many top FBS programs in the west don't want to schedule us because as we've shown, we can win them.

So we end up going to Iowa or Tennessee. Which is great, but is far outside our normal recruiting area, so the benefit is minimized.

I do think it makes sense to play an FBS school, especially in states like Wash., Oregon, and California where we heavily recruit, every year or two but only if these schools make it worth our while financially vs. playing another home game. And I am guessing that means a guarantee to UM today of around $ 750,000 to do that so that the game makes financial sense for us as one of our 3 or 4 nonconference games.. ( Didn't UDUB pay us $600,000 in 2021 ? )

In addition to recruiting and exposure, I think our kids and coaches, plus GRIZ Nation look forward to such games and such games can help toughen us up mentally and physically for the conference and playoffs ( We played WAZZU in '95 in Pullman, Hawaii in '01 in Oahu and most--We didn't play an FBS game last year --NC years, we have played an FBS game.) But we should only play if these games make financial sense--we are not starving for $ like PSU and Idaho, that last year played two FBS games, not a good idea due to injuries and a team's W-L record !!!

UM has had a many home playoff games in the past 2 years as the Cats have. And UM's attendances were much higher.
The attendances were higher, but saying "Much higher" might be a stretch. If you look at griz three games last year and one game this year, and Cat's one game last year and three games this year and look at the overall averages it comes out to 18,237 for Cats and 20,121 for griz.

That includes one game for us during the Thanksgiving holiday that was half full.

In games during the same rounds (you guys didn't play in the first round, and likely would've also had a half empty stadium if you had), we averaged 22,670.

Article today in the Missoulian on the schedule. The University is really into padding the Hauck family statistics.
I think after Griz beat UW teams might be reluctant to pay $750k to lose. Oh ya who coached that team? Same thing with Cats beating New Mexico this year. With the Old PAC 12 gone UW and Oregon have to add Wazzua and Oregon State and there are fewer non conference opportunities. You are just looking for anything possible to be whine about.

They're terrified. I wonder if Weber is afraid too.

So you are saying that Bobby and administration intentionally decided not to play FBS schools so he could pad his record? Do you process anything before you post or is it just hate Bobby rage 24/7?
Absolutely. What's you explanation for the Griz being the only school in the Big Sky not playing an FBS opponent? Instead, we are playing a D2 program.

You realize that non conference scheduling is complicated and done often years in advance. There are many factors that go into it. And if you are an FBS school paying $750 k for a warmup game you would probably want to play Portland St or Weber rather than UM. Griz have been playing D2 schools non conference for decades. Why ? Same reason FBS schools schedule FCS schools. A full stadium that pays the bills. And if no one is offering big money to offer Griz why give up that $? Griz football and to a lesser extent Men’s and women’s basketball support all other sports at UM. It is not to boast Bobby’s ego or record.

Once again pointing out that in 4* of the last 5 times we've gone to the national championship game, we played a D2 school that season at home. No idea why people still cry and moan about playing D2 teams when it seems to help us lol

*2004 was against D1-in-name-only UNCO

You would rather play the Griz than almost every other Big Sky Conference school. Take a look at the history before you spew some dumb comment.
