I was responding to the original thread that implied it was incompetent to recruit a QB that can't run. Trying to make the point that the offense can be schemed around a pocket QB. But I guess you missed that part.
 
I may be alone with this, but in addition to the sacks due to lack of protection, which will happen, I saw many plays this season where whatever QB had tons of time (4-ish seconds) and just held onto the ball. I know it's very en vogue to blame it all on the OL, but that's not really the total extent of what I saw. Especially later in the season. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. It was kind've a "both cases" scenario this year. At times when the O-Line did do well and give the QB time, it was exactly the scenario you just described. But that also shows the QB issues we dealt with as well. Both the O-Line and QB position were suspect throughout the year.

My concern was the lack of consistency and execution in the OL play, and not just in the passing game. There were issues for the running game also, it was just camouflaged by some of the long hitters.

But all you do is point out the negative. You also admit that you are also correct "quite a bit", which means not always and leaves it rather ambiguous to actually how often. I am not always super positive, and you aren't even close to living rent free in anything. I would rather not hit the ignore button, because every time you post your negative view, I feel that much better about myself because I don't have the overall sad view of life that you seem to.

I've said it before, but one of the most powerful quotes I've learned in recent years is "brutal honesty is only valuable if you are also brutally honest about the positive things and give praise where it is due, otherwise you are just being a dick." So many people want to use "just being honest" or being a "straight shooter" as an excuse to just say ugly things about people.

In my opinion, if they didn't have the skill to play in the FCS they wouldn't be on the roster.

Just because a certain player never gets on the field doesn't mean he doesn't have the FCS skill there are many cogs in the wheel. He could be behind a better player. It could be he's not in the right situation but everyone that on the roster could potentially be a starter on a different team with different depth or scheme needs. That is why the portal is so busy, everyone is looking for more playing time because they believe in their skills even if coaches don't.

But most offenses in 2024 are better with a true duel threat. That added run option is killer for defenses. It's great that a QB can throw a ball, but one that can throw and run is really better as offenses have evolved. It used to be a luxury, but almost a necessity today. Every level, including NFL, duel threat...or at least that threat...is important. Not many Dan Marino, or Troy Aikman types playing full time. Name the top 5 QB in the league...each has a run element.

Think it was on here or one of the Fife posts but it was pointed out the +1/QB Run game is one common factor for Dakota States, MSU and us with Cliff to be a NC contender team. Seems almost needed to succeed at this level.

Why was there such a decline in special teams? That is where you see the biggest issues with young talent.

Peace man, I completely agree. But there are still a few teams running the pro style like UCD and ISU did this year. Vigan recruited his own son and he's not really the duel threat type.
