MBBALL San Fran game thread

If you eliminate not get crushed in the first round of the NCAA tourney from your list of expectations, this team can accomplish almost everything you could possibly want.

Whitney needs to come off the bench. I don’t think him and Money are particularly effective together.

I thought this team could win the Big Sky or be a runner up and win a game or two in The Big Dance or NIT--imagine, we make it to The Sweet 16 !!!

But now after nonconference, I am thinking I am probably at least a year early !!!

This team can get better, but making it to the sweet 16 is laughable at this point. Winning a game in the tourney seems to be out of reach too

We were big underdogs in 2006 too but we took down number 5 Nevada. Anything is possible, more so in basketball because you have 5 on 5 and it comes down to matchups. Andrew strait at 6’8” totally embarrassed 6’11” Frasekus (sp) who had been POY in MWC two years in a row.
I like this team a lot and if they win the BSC and get a 14 or better seed I could see them getting through the first round.
Hope springs eternal.

Thats all well and good but the Big Sky auto bid hasn't been competitive in any tourney game since 2006, which is a loooooong time ago. Also if Griz win I don't see anything higher than a 15 seed.

I don’t disagree. Their pre conference games, even though against powerhouse Tennessee and Oregon and the loss to USU don’t bode well for a better spot. With the exception of the lower division teams all the other road losses were against much better and ranking teams. I know Travis likes to test his teams early but it doesn’t play well come seeding time.
I’m still mystified at the play of Money Williams? He has so much talent but doesn’t seem to fit into the system. He is such a dynamic player but almost seems disinterested when he’s on the floor? Wish I could get inside his head. Given that I wouldn’t know what to do anyway. But whatever the issue we need him.
I’ve spoken with Chris Cobb multiple times and just trying to deal with the head cases much less trying to coach in itself can be a exercise in futilely.

The Big Sky will always be a #15 or 16, unless they were line 25-2 or something like that. We do t have any size compared to the P5 teams

He’s been inconsistent but I wouldn’t say he doesn’t fit into the system. He’s still averaging double figures and playing good defense. He’s not taking over games the way he did about a month ago, but he’s still been good. I suspect against BSC teams he’ll get it going.

I agree totally. Poor choice of words on my part.

I am of the belief that TD isn't capable of building a team at UM that can win post season games.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion. I’m sure there are many people on both sides of the fence regarding Travis. I’ve known Travis since he came here to coach. His commitment to his players and staff is beyond reproach. Academics are a top priority for him.

And my post did nothing to say otherwise.

I’m of the option that if someone is paying for your school (scholarships) the most important thing is academics and being a good person above and beyond winning games. But winning matters too
