New QB?

What’s going on with our in-state QBs?
The level of competition they are seeing just isn't as high as elsewhere, it takes longer for them to develop. Montana is very much still in the "put your best athlete at QB and let him be a one read and go kind of guy."

When was the last time we produced a QB that really succeeded anywhere? Osweiler?

It isn't really anybody's fault. Montana high school football just isn't at the level of some other places, to my mind.
I just want Flowers to get a shot.
Also really excited about Flowers. I haven't been this excited for young QBs at Montana in an awfully long time.

Seems to have been at BYU initially but had 2 years being coached by USC. Could have alot of potential at the FCS level, difficult to find any highlights of him, his X mentions practice film for interested coaches. Played here in Utah in high-school and found highlights of that:

Doesn't really seem like a Pease type offense QB. Definitely more of a passer... The Offense Pease wants to run needs a mobile QB. This kinda reminds me of them bringing in Vidlak or Huot, just won't work out unless they change schemes.

Thanks for posting. Love this dude's footwork. If there's one thing Ah Yat and Fife were both subpar at, it was keeping solid footwork under pressure.

Looks to have a big arm, too.

I'm not trying to argue with you on this, but I'm really curious about what you mean. Why do you believe that Pease wants a mobile QB? I don't pretend that I was watching every game he coached at UTEP and Florida or anything, but I don't remember him utilizing mobile QBs for much of his career.

I think its the opposite, mobile QBs have been the exception not the initial want in his offense. They changed quite a bit up when Cliff took over to play to his strengths.

I guarantee you that if our staff found a statue in the pocket that could read defenses and hit the open man on a consistent basis, they're not going to tell him to take a hike because he isn't mobile.

If Vidlak or Huot could consistently do that, they'd very likely be (or have been) our starting QB (and not replaced, like Sam was).

Then again, Vidlak was a Walter Payton finalist for another school.

Because his offense is mostly RPO and he needs a QB that can +1 if the pass is covered and the RB is targeted. If they both break down, you need that QB to be able to make a play. It's why it worked well with McDowell. He could read defenses and make a play when needed.

Oh, I like mobile QBs too. I just thought you were saying that was the kind of offense Pease wants to run. You don't necessarily need high mobility for RPO, but of course you are right that you do for a +1 game. I just haven't thought of him as liking the +1 game all that much, but I don't know him at all.

All of his offenses that have done well, was with a QB that could get yards when the play breaks down. Any time he's had a pure passer his offenses have been less than satisfying.

Weren’t you a Fife guy?
What you just described explains why KAY was preferred by the coaches over Fife.

You probably know a lot more about his history than I do. If it was me, I'd always want a scrambling QB. I don't think my coaching record would be as good in real life as it is in NCAA 25 though, for some reason.

Requires an elite O-line...

Except Ah Yat could t effectively read defenses and couldn't pass very well. He checked 1 box, mobility.
Also Fife i believe had 1 more rushing yard than Ah Yat. So basically same rushing yards but, Fife had a ton more passing yardage and a way way better TD to int ratio. He also could read defenses much better.
