2025 Transfer Thread/ Portal Offers-- (31) Transfers to UM

Elrond. You’re dealing with people who think teams stay in their base defense the entire game. It’s not worth it. Although to be fair, Baer would stay in his base defense the entire game. Bradford changed that.
Oddly, I found Baer's version more fun to watch (just for the absolutely insane amounts of twists and stunts), but good lord Ronnie Bradford can run a defense. I'd love to see him back here with a promotion some day.

To me the issue with the 3-3-5 isn't whether it's base, or people dropping down, or nickel, or any of that. It's that we have ONE guy over 280 on the field at a time, against 5 O-linemen averaging 300lbs. A 3 (or 4) man D-line going 245-285-245 with a 225lb LB thrown in there...

IMHO we'd be better served with 2 big DT's, two 250-265lb DE's, and 3 LB's. Would be much harder to "move" them back than what we currently witness (which is the D-line getting manhandled unless you happen to have a once-in-a-generation player like Alex Gubner in there).

"Junking" the 3-3-5 isn't a "tweak". It would require a wholesale overhaul of the defensive roster. We currently have ONE guy (Ramos) on the roster over 280. In your proposal he'd need a minimum of six for starters, depth and development at DT. We wouldn't need the # of safeties and corners we have.

A) I don't think he's junking anything
B) Even if he did, that roster turnover ain't happening in one year.

We're stuck with the 3-3-5 until he departs, most likely.
Or we are fortunate to have the 3-3-5 with Hauck.

I agree, I'd love us to have bigger guys on the d-line. Absolutely.

I was responding to this shit I keep hearing, though, that no championship teams ever run a 3-3-5. People saying that either don't know what a 3-3-5 is or they don't know what they are watching on TV. I'm not even advocating for it being better than other defenses, but people just look really stupid when they claim that other successful teams never run a 3-3-5.

The lack of actual recruit/transfer information in this 32 page thread is a testament to the horrible job this staff does at building buzz and excitement around recruiting. Its driving me fucking nuts.
I don't know that is the case. I think we have a lot of offers out there but so far few commits. The reason being that most of the portal entries are looking either to move up or across. Not down.

I honestly think January is going to be very interesting, given the new FBS roster limits. There are going to be a ton of kids that tried to move FBS to FBS who are not going to have a spot.

Except the portal closes on the 28th. So how are those guys supposed to find a new spot?
