Righting the wrongs

I agree. Same with these damn boosters who think they know more about college athletics than the ADs. It’s a problem.
The big boosters do know more than the AD because many of them they actually played college football and in a case or two, the NFL. And they have better access to the coaches. And they put up the big bucks to support the program. I don’t know of any program where the AD can go against the big boosters. The guy at Oregon went against Knight, and Knight fired him.

What should Haslam do if the big boosters believed Fife should have played against SDSU?

There’s two signing days, one in December one in February. The most recent one got moved up a couple weeks compared to last year, I think.

Everybody has a signing day event. It’s a big deal for the incoming freshman, fans love it, it’s easy and good publicity. These players are the future of the program, they probably deserve to get some acknowledgment from the head guy. And every other team does it! It takes half an hour! There’s really no good reason not to do

What good does a little signing day event do in December, during Portal recruiting time? A press release went out. Were there related videos? There was press. There were zero surprises on recruits signed. Recruits don't come to the signing events. The QB Club gets invited to the February event. I don't recall ever getting invited or going to a December signing thing.

What do you think was lost by not having a signing event this week? Why is it a big deal for incoming frosh? Aren't they still in high school?
The recruits love the notoriety!! Every news station in Montana showed Vigen and msu's event and followed it with Bobby Hauck and the University did not have a signing event.

It's an opportunity for good press.

Thats now exactly how that went down, but that’s neither here nor there. UM’s closest thing to Knight is DW, and he doesn’t know ball. I think we define “big boosters” differently.

Look, Dude. I don't agree with you. Are you comparing Hauck to Smart, Saban and DeBoer. Only 1 of them even made the playoffs this season.

Again, what, specifically, do you think the Griz missed by not doing a little event? Would it be anything more than a press conference? What did the Griz do last year? I was hanging with Santa last year, so don't recall and actually don't recall anything about an event.
All I’m saying is that it’s easy PR, it’s an easy way to get recruits and their families excited, and literally everybody does it.

So I guess my question would be, why not do it? And I realize you’re not going to say this amazing staff of amazing coaches could possibly do something wrong, even if they’re the only ones in America doing it this way, but come on. All he has to do is talk a little about the kid and say how excited they are for them to join the program. Epitome of easy PR.

How do you define big boosters? I define them as the people, all guys to my knowledge, who consistently contribute the biggest bucks and otherwise have significant credibility and exercise influence in and around Griz football. The athletic dept and Bobby calls on them for support and financial assistance at various times. They have been big financial supporters for football, and some also to the university. Some of them have played for the Griz. Various athletic dept projects have gotten big bucks from some of them. Most of them are in QB Club. All of them have Bobby's ear and some of them are some of his better friends. There is also a second tier group who are close to football and Bobby and are very good team supporters, but they haven't necessarily put up the big bucks of the others in the top tier.

Again, what' your definition?

Again, you're dumb. The biggest booster at UM never played a snap of football.

Maybe it's easy and maybe it's a benefit, but I ask whether it's any big deal. I don't think it is. Hauck had input in writing the blurbs about them. Hauck will likely talk about them in the future. I just don't see what the big deal is with not having a bigger deal at this time of the year, during the playoffs, and right before the start of a huge Portal time.

I'd like to see a link to what the event last December included. I definitely never saw anything.

Same with the second biggest, who you don't know or know who he is, nor others in the group. I said "some" had played football. You are a total idiot.

Why don't you name the big boosters? You don't need to name the Washington family. I know you can't name them. You don't know.

It's not a he dipshit. You're dumb.

I’m merely stating that a “big booster” is someone who contributes a significant amount on an annual basis, say 6 to 7 figures annually. Someone who casually donates 10k or 50k “over five years” while appreciated, is not someone who should have any kind of pull. Sorry, but if you think you can attach strings to a 10k donation and get the number to Bobbie’s bat phone you’re dumb. There are only a few people who donate the kind of money that are truly transcendent of the others and should be allowed to have a seat at the table, but allowing a bunch of small fish boosters to have a say when they have made small donations or a semi significant one 10 years ago is dumb.

So the Washington family and Denny W and his sons, and their Foundation, are not the biggest donor to Griz football? How can you be so stupid?
The Washington Foundation made substantial financial gifts to UM for the Stadium and Champions Center. The last significant donation was over 10 years ago. They are far from the largest current boosters.
