I understand, I just…trying to figure the best way to explain. My point was having both on the field at times can add to some confusion pre-snap, and hopefully some quick pressure. I don't know a ton about this kid, and I'm not trying to make the point that he is a perfect fit or the savior. You just sounded like you didn't see any logic in adding him to the team at all, so I was putting forward a possible logical framework where he can help.
While I agree that Georgia is playing with physical freaks, they are also competing in a conference with other physical freaks. I am not suggesting this kid is as good as Nolan Smith or the Griz are as good as Georgia. But when balancing for talent at our level, this kid has been an FCS Freshman All-American (Both STATS and HERO), was the conference defensive player of the year, and is a Buchanan Award Finalist. He may not be athletic freak enough for Georgia, but he is probably athletic enough. Arm length can matter, sure, but there are exceptions to every rule. I've always cared more about arm length for offensive lineman.
Lastly, I'd just also suggest that injuries happen. Never hurts to have players of this caliber on the roster, even if you don't think they would start over Wilson. But, like I said, you had sounded like you couldn't understand there being any logic at all to it. I was just trying to share the logical framework that made sense to me.
I personally wouldn’t want to use the portal to fill depth, but to find immediate starters. That’s just me.
And yeah, he has really good stats for Drake. Put any of the starting defensive ends from this Griz team on the Drake team and I bet they’re an all American at Drake too. Hope I’m wrong though!
