Leaf

So being entitled somehow makes it better? I'm confused... being born without a moral compass doesn't mean you can't acquire one along to road of life, you just need to reach down and pick one up...
Not saying it is better at all, and again, not sticking up for him. He is an ass, but that sure didn't help.

The fact that you gris fans are so butthurt over Leaf trolling you is hilarious. It just feeds his persona.

I don't know him or any of his family. Does he seem like an asshole? Yup. Has he made a ton of stupid decisions. Yup. Has he suffered the consequences of those actions? I would say that he has. Will he do something stupid again in the future? Most likely. Is he obligated to ask forgiveness to Montana (both the school and the state) for disrespecting you/us in the past? Not really in my opinion.

What I see right now is that he is owning his past and not running from it. He is trying to build something with his life and maybe do some good somewhere. Sure he is on about his 6th chance but instead of being butthurt for being disrespected, I think that gris fans should own their own deficiencies and roll with it.

He is a caustic asshole, but he has disowned you, so he is not your caustic asshole, you have enough of those in you fanbase anyway.
He is yours.

When my friends and I would go to Dinner with Leaf (maybe every other yearish) when he was still in the NFL I believe, he would always try and play a game called "More Famous" where he would go through his phone and ask everyone if they had the phone number to somebody more famous than he did... I had him beat one year, and was never invited to dinner again. (I had Prince, Lisa Loeb, and Peanut from 311... Prince won the table vote). Nobody at the table had any clue that I knew these people, because I didn't talk about it every 10 seconds.
Yet - you talk about it here. What a douche.

He also said in a tweet that "the people in Montana are pretty shitty people". That would include you cat fans. He's a first class a-hole. I'm all for someone turning their life around, but safe to say prison did not humble this dude.

You douchebags own him.

We'll keep PR.

One is successful. The other beats women.
If MSU owns Leaf how come he didn’t play there? Oh yeah at the time Bozeman was a poverty program in the process of losing 16 straight to the Griz. They definitely could have used Leaf though the Cats went 0-7 in the Big Sky Leaf’s first collegiate season in 1994.

5280, please take a second, step back from your keyboard, and quit taking everything at face value.

Ryan does this because he can. He's trolling and doing a damn good job at it.

I'm the same age, played a bunch of sports against him, and yes he was a unmitigated tool in HS. I was on the Big Sky HS team (I merely stood and watched) that he lost to in final HS FB game and called us rock pickers. Still one of the best all around athletes I've seen in person at the high school level in Montana.

I got to know him over the years and he's been nothing but personable to me. Worked in two different school districts in Montana with members of his extended family during his descent into addiction and it colored it a bit differently for me.

If you live in glass houses, you probably shouldn't throw stones. I follow him on twitter and he's at least publicly embraced his past failures with a bit of humor. I know that for many when it comes to Ryan, particularly on the western side of the state, they just don't care whether throw aspersions at him for actions that they have/or currently do themselves. Ryan could have stayed in that gutter, but he pulled himself out. To that he should be given credit.

Is he still that tool? Absolutely, and even if was different in reality, it is a simple fact that some Montanans are still bitter about 1994.

But you are getting trolled regardless.

Saying he is just a troll all the more proves the point that he hasn't and never will mature.
It also seems that his list of criminal offenses since 1994 is quite extensive.

Imagine being 10 years old, and on your Birthday you are told that you are the best and most amazing person to ever live, then everywhere you go from 10-15 everyone that you talk to, and I mean everyone, tells you how amazing you are, and how much they love you. Everything you do is amazing, and all your faults are written off because everyone wants to be apart of your circle. At 15-18 you are in High School, and already all your coaches in every sport are telling you "Whatever you want to do, we will make it happen, you are the best to every play".. You are a Highschool student, and have nobody holding you accountable for anything you do. Everyone just wants to be near you... That then continues, with very little pushback, from 18-22 into college... Sure some players at your college may TRY to step up and put you in place, but they also want to win, and the coaches don't seem to want to do anything about it. So it continues... THEN you are thrust into the NFL, where for the 1st time ever in your LIFE you are held accountable, and the coaches, teammates, and media don't gave a rip about who you are, or how great you have been told you are for over TEN YEARS... How would you turn out. I ask many times to people when they buy lottery tickets "Would you change if you won a BILLION dollars" Most say "Nope, I would be the same exact person"... In theory, that is all well and good. But would you? I WANT to think I wouldn't change, and that I would be the same person... But I honestly don't know if I would be.

With that all said, I am in no way sticking up for Leaf. I have met him countless times, and every time I walked away thinking "Man, what an ass"... But imagine being in that situation through every bit of your mental and physical maturity. It isn't something that just goes away.
It’s a fair post, Sac but I think 3-7-77 nailed it. If I’m not mistaken he has a background in mental health services. If you are treating a cluster b personality disorder the last thing you give them are repeated chances. You’re just duplicating the scenario you described above regarding his formative years.

The only other thing I would question is his treatment by his HS coaches. Coach Johnson didn’t suffer fools gladly.

He's a felon and there is no absolving that in any way. He's rehabilitated himself for the most part while I know friends of the same age that can't say the same.

He's not perfect and I don't really expect people to see him as the next candidate for the Pope. My larger point, it isn't that he suffered from opiate addiction, broke into homes, or spent time into prison, or even that he was a spectacular bust in the NFL why many of my friends my age harbor such anger and dislike. That stuff that happened after he went to Washington State and went to the NFL, was merely fuel on an already fully involved fire of dislike.

He created it all himself and did a great job stoking that fire when he was in high school and in college. I can say that for the most part he's a vastly better human now than he was in his teens and 20's.

He probably is... I am a communication and Journalism major, so I am basically a Janitor with a good voice. Just my thoughts, and what I have observed. As for Coach Johnson, I am just going off what people have said. I am about the same age as Leaf, so we knew a lot of the same people. Just what I had heard from many in Great Falls. We know how 17-18 year Olds like to act like everything is unfair.

As the executive fry station chef (EFSC) at the Burger Barn I have a direct line of sight to the front counter interactions. Over the decades there I’ve seen some shit.

I’m older, maybe Coach Johnson softened over the years? In my day he would have had Jesus Christ doing after practice bear crawls for calling too much attention to himself. Then again, given Jesus’s 40 time, everyone knew he would never be a D-1 athlete 👍

Nobody said he is a victim. Just pointed out that your comment says more about whomever said it, than it does about Leaf. Leaf’s failures are public, your buddy’s lack of character isn’t, at least not until your flex about your insider knowledge. Haha!
Don’t be upset Ryan
