Good on Merek. Watched him lead the Capital Bruins to a state AA championship. What he might lack in pure athletic ability he more than makes up in mental acuity (like most coaches kids). He can have a nice career as an NAIA quarterback with a very competitive team, rather than hope for a safety position for a year or two with the Griz. Smart choice for him and look forward to following his career.
Are any Montana players signing with FBS schools?
I don't believe any have this year. Next year there should be at least 2 for sure in Ludwig (Billings West) and Presley (Glacier)... They are the 2 that have had the most FBS offers so far. Presley committed to Boise State, but, as we know, that doesn't mean anything till he signs. Ludwig has offers from pretty much every SEC and Big 10 school. He may be the most heavily recruited kid in Montana History.

Seems he saw the last-minute UM offer to play QB for what it was, just an attempt to get him in the building and not really a genuine want for him at the position.

Merek may have also seen what the other quarterback from Helena has had for an opportunity in Missoula. Huot has had, what, 5 minutes of playing time this year, even with all the questions at that position. And, physical tools-wise, Huot has it all over Mihelish. Plus, if Ah Yat stays, it looks like that position is going to be filled for several years.
That’s good to hear some Montana high school kids are being recruited by FBS schools. Locally, their opportunities are limited to FCS and NAIA.
Could have also been Mark Anderson out of Lewistown. He was class of ‘01 and supposedly he had offers from pretty much every football powerhouse. He ended up going to Stanford, blowing out his knee and coming back to MSU to finish his academic career. He was a monster.

I’ll let you in on a secret. Practice is really important and they film practice. And they spend hours upon hours analyzing everything of every practice. And they grade every player everyday. That determines who plays. That’s why Ah Yat and Fife both play and Huot doesn’t.
Hauck doesn’t think QB should be treated differently and you should only play one. Separate issue.
It’s also why Geno Leonard played a bunch against the Bobcats. Earned it
