The Coaching Carousel

I keep hearing from bobcat fans about how Vigan won't leave MSU because his kids are there and that it would take a really great opportunity to lure him away. That is laughable considering pretty much any FBS opportunity would triple his salary. If Fresno State offers he's gone in a heartbeat.
Exactly just as any of us would in any of our professions. Vigen is only 49 years old. He could cash in.

Fresno is a good job too.

I can confirm through a buddy of mine who works at Utah State that Vigen is not in the mix there. It's looking like a two horse race between Hill and Mendenhall. Hill has some lofty demands for funding and NIL, while Mendenhall requires a steep buyout at UNM given it's only his first year. They're weighing which of those two would cost more.

Fresno State on the other hand is very much in play for Vigen. According to their chat board, it looks like a 4 horse race between Vigen, Eck, Matt Entz, and the interim. The consensus among the fans seems to either be Eck or Entz.

I suspect both jobs will probably be filled this week. If New Mexico opens up, that will be another one worth watching.

If Entz wins out over Eck that would be an incompetent decision. If Vigen doesn't find something this year his options might dry up.I think he leaves this year for sure.

Entz is tough because his record speaks for itself, but the problem is he's a Midwest guy. Outside of this year at USC, he has no west coast ties at all. I don't think he hardly recruited California or anywhere on the west coast really at NDSU. It was mainly midwest and then like Texas and Florida. I do think Entz will have plenty of opportunities to get a gig, but I would probably pass on Fresno if I were him. I understand the allure of being in the PAC12, but that just doesn't feel like a good fit for him.

Things are about to get really interesting at Utah State. Jay Hill withdrew his name from consideration last night after receiving a sizeable raise from BYU. Mendenhall has also elected to stay put at New Mexico. This very well could put Vigen and Eck in play for USU now. Former Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin may also be in play too.
