Thought otherwise? He started! He played terribly, as did the OL, and McDowell outplayed him. Of all the things to bash the coaches on, this isn’t one of em.Congrats to Sam on becoming a finalists. What a turn of events for that young man, I always thought he was the best QB on our team last year but the coaches thought otherwise.
How would you explain the fact that he "played terribly" while here and now is a conference Newcomer of the year and a Payton finalist after he moves on? Better team? Better offensive scheme? Better coaches? I certainly can't explain it but blaming the coaches sure seems like the easiest path. That's not what I'm doing mind you, just more rhetorical than anything. Regardless, good for Sam. Always seemed like a great kid.Thought otherwise? He started! He played terribly, as did the OL, and McDowell outplayed him. Skill-wise, absolutely. Leadership-wise, it wasn't even close.Great guy, hard worker, good friend, was a way better QB than McDowell. This proves it.
What would you know about it? Did Vidlak start 4 or 5 games and show what he could do? The answer is no. As an athlete I dismiss the instant gratification syndrome fans have. One game doesn't make a player, 18 games does. Consistency and experience are not earned in 6 quarters of football, nor are they lost.Skill-wise, absolutely. Leadership-wise, it wasn't even close.
Nope, he didn't because it was clear the O-line wasn't going to block for him or, for that matter, help him up from getting sacked. Best coaching decision BH has ever made. What would you know about it? Did Vidlak start 4 or 5 games and show what he could do? The answer is no. The video of him running for his life while the O-line walked to the sideline at NAU said it all. What would you know about it? Did Vidlak start 4 or 5 games and show what he could do? In your made up world, even you admit it wasn't on Vidlak then. The OL is where everything starts and last year and this season they have failed. Lets not act like the QB that played the majority of the season was that great, he was a runner like Mellot that plays QB but couldn't take over a game with his arm.Nope, he didn't because it was clear the O-line wasn't going to block for him or, for that matter, help him up from getting sacked. I agree. What is that poster thinking? We could all see that McDowell took did better, took the reins, and ran with the ball.Thought otherwise? He started! He played terribly, as did the OL, and McDowell outplayed him. Of all the things to bash the coaches on, this isn’t one of em.
My only excuse is that we have a poor head coach, which handicaps us. That quarterback, who couldn't throw the ball, threw touchdowns in both overtimes last year to get us to the National Title. In your made up world, even you admit it wasn't on Vidlak then. Fans like you constantly make excuses, when the reality stares you in the face.
Its not the refs
Its not the coaches
Its not play calling
Its not weather
Its not how loud it is
Sometimes it comes down to accountability and players need to look in the mirror

Yet it's Vidlak on the list, not McDowell.I agree. What is that poster thinking? We could all see that McDowell took did better, took the reins, and ran with the ball.
Well, it is probably difficult to have any chance for the list when injured and missing half the season.Yet it's Vidlak on the list, not McDowell.
And then quit the team to transfer elsewhere.• Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year.
• Posted a record season in his only season at Montana, going 11-1 as a starter and leading the team to the FCS National Championship game.
• Recorded 753 net rushing yards, which was the most in a season in modern Grizzly history since 1991, surpassing Dalton Sneed’s 2018 total of 675 yards against Furman.
• Completed 160 of 274 passes for 2,026 yards and 13 touchdowns, completing 58% of his passes.
• Four games where he threw for 200 yards or more with a high of 243 behind 18 of 32 passing to go along with three TDs.
That is what gets me about all these posters that want to whine about McD leaving. He could have been on the Griz and he decided to enter the portal. And then quit the team to transfer elsewhere.
