Every measurable way

As Mike said on he GFP a couple years ago, MSU is beating UM in every measurable way. I didn’t want to believe it then but it is certainly true.

In athletics they have won the Brawl of the Wild series trophy 8 years in a row, they have taken 6 of the last 8 in football. They have gone to 3 straight NCAA tournaments in men’s basketball, and dominating the Griz in women’s men’s basketball.

There is construction going on all over MSU campus, there indoor looked amazing compared to our bubble. They have almost double our enrollment and I could go on and on….

My question is WHY? Is it possible for us to get back on track?

One significant problem for UM athletics is that no one strives to move on to bigger challenges, so the status quo prevails. The only time a coach moves on is when they are fired. I would be curious to know what their personal goals are each year.

They win the Brawl trophy because they win all the sports nobody gives a shit about. Last year we won Football and 3/4 Basketball games against them. Guess we gotta step it up at Track and Field and Golf if you wanna win the Brawl Trophy. Do you wanna donate to those programs so that we can get better at those?

You also apparently haven’t been paying attention to all the new construction at UM have you? We just finished a beautiful new Dining Hall, now construction is underway on a new dorm, up next is the new Forestry building, etc. not to mention the indoor, MMAC, heating plant, just to name a few. Not to mention we also had our largest Freshman class in 15 years this Fall and our overall enrollment grew by almost 500 kids.

Look the reality of the situation is in Football, the home team has dominated the last 5 years. That’s just how it’s gone and it’s put the home team in a much better position to succeed going into the playoffs. Last year the cats limped into Missoula, got destroyed, and bowed out early. Now it appears the same is gonna happen to us. The question is how do we respond from this going into next year? That will be the most telling sign going into 2025.

The mindset behind your comment is the problem. Great athletic programs are successful in everything. I am guessing that Haslam cares about the success of those programs. It's not just about losing the Brawl. It's finishing in 5th place in the Big Sky. Comparing the two schools right now is laughable.

MSU did not unilaterally create the Brawl series, the participating events, or the points awarded. Both schools consented to it all.

As for sports that nobody cares about, I assume what you really mean is they don't generate revenue. While true, the top track and field athletes go on to compete as Olympians. That is nothing to scoff at.

As for this year's Brawl series, we can just go ahead and pencil in MSU taking all four points for track and field right now, which brings MSU's total to 10 points of 17 available. So, MSU's already won this year's Brawl series.

Last year we won more conference championships than the cats. We had titles in Football, Soccer and Women's Tennis for 3. The cats had 2 last year in Men's Basketball and Men's Track & Field. So technically I would say the Griz athletic department was more successful last year.

Both teams have 1 title this year in Soccer and Football. It's expected to be a really tight race in Basketball on both the men's (Griz, cats, UNC) and women's side (Griz, cats, NAU). Based on the early going, I like the Men's chances and we'll see with the Lady Griz. I also think it could be a promising year for both Tennis squads at UM. I think Softball could be sneaky good this year (yes cats don't play that) and am excited to see that team play this year.

Point being, yes Football was disappointing this year, but it can still be a successful year for Griz Athletics. The pathway is there in many sports and perhaps success in these other sports will help distract us from a lackluster Football season. I expect the staff in Football to have another look in the mirror moment when the offseason comes around, similar to the end of the 22 season. Let's see how the offseason goes for Football this year before we start declaring the program irrelevant for good. Nobody was saying that this time last year.

Part of the problem comes from people like you who don’t support or appreciate the program. Enrollment is up 6% this year. The football team is in playoffs and you are babbling about stuff like this. The football team crushed the Cats last year and went to Frisco. The athletic facilities are currently better than MSU’s. Bodnar is a terrific president.

I don't think the football staff ever has a look-in-the-mirror moment. Bobby is too arrogant to think he needs to adapt. The only thing that will force change is when the stadium looks empty. The Portland state game was the start of that happening.

Stadium wasn't empty just emptied early... have been there many times in the past few years when the Griz were up significantly and some of the crowd exited. Portland State has no general indication of anything other than the Griz attendance is still formidable and the crowd really acts like most big crowds after the game is been decided... I will say however the crowd does have a significant different vibe depending on the opponent ...

You clearly didn't see the game. Large sections of the stadium were empty.

Hauck has already adapted. You are so far from program and dislike Hauck so much that you don’t even know and are too biased. You just make the same comments over and over.

They are ahead of us in spelling also Hauck tau.

I beg to differ. After 22, Bobby changed coordinators on both sides of the ball and implemented a new offense. In fact, every coach on the staff except for Green got a position change. That worked out pretty well for us in 23. I don't think we need to make quite the wholesale changes like that in this offseason, but I do think they'll realize this season was a disappointment and make some changes. What those changes are? I don't exactly know but to think they're not gonna do anything in the offseason is crazy.

Who turns on ESPN+ for you so you can watch?
I watch the games through the window of my box, which is often open. It probably won't be open this Saturday night. I also have other season tickets across the stadium. I might have an extra ticket in the Canyon Club if you want to sit with people who impact the University.

The D-coordinator changed because of a retirement. The O-Coordinator changed in name only. Reshuffling the chairs on the Titanic is not looking in the mirror.

Nobody was really calling for a change at DC at the time outside of a handful of people, and IDK what you mean by a change in OC in name only. What does that even mean?

The D-coordinator retired, and the O-coordinator was changed in name only. The offense has continued to be horrible.

Who cares? My philosophy is simple: focus on working hard toward my goals and controlling what I can, while rooting for the Griz. At the end of the day, there’s nothing else I can do. In my view, they're neck and neck with MSU in athletics anyway, and honestly, I only care about football. We’ve still got the better stadium and the most recent National Championship appearance, so it’s not like MSU is miles ahead...
