Secondary part of Griz D

The D this year is horrible. Listen to Hobbs on the podcast. He says the D-line stands straight up at the snap of the ball. The linebackers stand around and rarely make contact at the line of scrimmage. The secondary has switched to playing almost entirely zone because they can't cover anyone.
The D is not horrible. Feel free to quote Hobbs for us. I get my info from 20 people on or close to Griz, not including Hobbs.

Pls explain.
D-Line twist against a triple option teams exposes gaps as the D-lineman often times gets washed down. The Cats are a triple option team. No...not the tripe option of the 80's Nebraska teams. It is inverted and has the same blocking principals. We have to have clean eyes. We have to stay gap sound and tackle. We do this Saturday and we will be right in the middle of potentially winning this game. It is really that simple.

Thx. I would do what Griz did last season.

No dog in the fight but I listened to the pod. I don't remember that Hobbs guy, but he seems like an awesome dude. Even from a rival it was cool hearing his perspective. I'd have a beer with that guy for sure.

Unfortunately, depending on your thinking, 3-3-5 needs some gaming up front. Our success in the past has been predicated to a high degree in our ability to get our LB's home on inside blitzes. Often we do this by bringing two LB's up the same gap. In order to do that we have to move and occupy some of those Cat O-linemen. The quickest way to do that, and 3-3-5 is all about quick, is stunts/loops and switching techs pre snap.

Our D starters are roughly the same size as last year, what I call tongue in cheek a 1-5-5, so we can't just stand and "hold that line" against guys that are 50 pounds heavier for 30 minutes. If what we want to do on a given play can't disrupt what they want to do then we have to "win the line" by getting to the places the Cats want to get to before they do.

I'm not trying to insult you. Really, I'm not. But you listen to the Grizfan pod? Really? I've never once listened to a cat podcast, the only exception being that I think one time the Griz fan pod guys did a crossover with one of the cat podcasters. I just think it's so weird how so many cat fans spend SO much time on our board and now they're listening to our fan podcasts as well. I don't know any Griz fans who continually post on bobcat Nation and listen to cat podcasts.

No offense taken. But yes. During Cat-Griz week I listen to about every podcast I can leading up to the game. I love hearing different perspectives, especially from former players. I've known Andrew Schmidt since he was like 10 and love that dudes perspective on this game. Listened to all Akems' stuff this week. Love the Skyline stuff.

I can't speak to why people post over here or how many griz post on BN. Never paid attention honestly. I do because I love the information and entertainment. Be honest, you can't go to many places and see grown men betting a quarter of a million dollars on an anonymous message board.....

Not to mention I have friends and even family that played for the Griz. I'm friends with Roger Cooper and love that dude. My grandfather is a big Griz booster and I look forward to our annual bet every year for as long as he has left. I think this is the best rivalry in sports. I think we have two amazing fanbases that includes idiots that take it too far. But in my view there is nothing better than Cat-Griz Saturday. And being that this is the longest week of my life every year, I pass the time listening and reading about anything and everything regarding this game.

Okay, you got me. That makes sense for this week only. That still doesn't explain the myriad of cat posters who inhabit egriz year-round but since you are the most sensible cat fan around here I won't force you into being an apologist for the most obnoxious part of your fan base.

Didn't gubner play a 0 tech last year? Essentially eating up both a gaps. The griz current NT now usually plays a 1 tech or 2i? That makes a pretty big difference especially against a dominant online that will find the soft spots in the front. The twist stunt you described works great against mediocre BSC teams but is risky with an offense like MSU.

Yes, Gubner played a lot of 0 tech last year, not exclusive but a lot. Griz often shift their techs just pre-snap so it isn't super important. Any twist is risky, but I don't think you overcome being a 17 point road dog without taking some risks.

I appreciate that!

I will say that we don't seem to have the Griz posters on BN like you have Cat posters here. These days. But as a longtime member of both boards, and a guy that endured the streak, I can promise you we dealt with the same stuff on that board from Griz trolls constantly. Maybe with the Cats having a little more success as of late, you're just getting a taste of that obnoxiousness now. Not making excuses, it's simply a theory.

But you are correct in saying you guys currently have a lot more Cat fans on this board than we seem to have on BN. But in fairness to all of us, this place is FAR more entertaining. I don't think I've had a day reading something over here that didn't make my head spin. You have some characters here for sure!

He is a good guy. He did some work for me a bit back in the day. I saw him recently.

I agree to most of this post. However, if you look at the last two Brawl games, last year there were significantly less line games. Now having a guy like Gub allows you to do this for sure. I totally agree with the 3-3-5 line games vs. traditional offenses. Unfortunately, MSU is not a traditional offense. It looks like one from most people but it is not. It is a triple option offense that has substituted the RPO for the old traditional pitch man triple option.

For me, it's just that I don't have the time I used to, so I've cut down on the # of boards I frequent. Used to be on AGS, then championshipsubdivision.com, and have 25-40,000 posts on each of those. Haven't been on either one in years tho...decided if I was going to stay on one it was going to be eGriz...but I've never even bothered to register on 'Scatnation.com...unlike you I have ZERO dog in that fight, ZERO cat fan influence in my Montana family...and zero care for what's being discussed there...

Thats ok either did bobby.
Completely off topic but 1981 Class B State Championship Plentywood 20 Big Timber 14. Big Timber QB was Bobby. His dad was head coach and I believe Tim was a freshman. Plentywood was led by RB/LB and the original #37 Kraig Paulson.
